The company is very big. Providing gas to many people who own cars and a place to get consumer products. A typical day at work would be waiting to serve customers.
Pros
customer interaction

Shell Oil Company - aka Royal Dutch Shell -
Vehicle Scheduler (Former Employee) –  Houston TexasMay 20, 2016
Great company to work for! Great benefits but not as good as they use to be 5 years ago and steadily declining. Great people development opportunities with operative word being 'opportunities'. Shell supplies the opportunity - you have to make it work for you. Networking and sociability is as important as the quality of your work. They want well rounded people. The new processes to help individuals be responsible for their own development gives employees (not to mention internal hiring managers) an 'at your fingertips' way to know where you are in the process but it will require a lot of effort from all parties. If you want to advance in this company you have to know the 'rules' and pay attention to the details.
Overall my experience with this company has been very positive. My only concern is that they seem to be choosing education over experience. There should be a place for both in a global company with this type 'longevity'. But if you have the education with not too many years of experience you will do well.
Pros
very safety conscience, people development is available but you must bring your own initiative to take advantage of it, open communication with management, very inclusive environment in a very worldly/global sense
Cons
layoffs which will continue, no 360 review process for ALL management levels - if you value/encourage ALL employee input, why are they not included in this very important area

Designer (Current Employee) –  New Orleans, LAMay 10, 2016
A great office atmosphere. Shell hired top-level talent which fostered a great environment for collaborative working. The jobs this office had the opportunity to develop and design were truly world-class and created exciting challenges for everyone that had the opportunity to contribute. Shell always pushed its employees to grow outside of their comfort zone, and they invested in their employees by offering personal, soft-skills development.

Wellness Reimbursements, Bonuses, People, World Class Projects

The job itself wasn't so bad. The people that work there though, are stuck up and mean. I didnt mind working nights sometimes, but keep track of your hours because the employer there messed up my check a few times.

Joint Venture Auditor (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXApril 15, 2016
9/80 work weeks optional with nice co-workers. Many jobs moved to India and Philippine’s and will continue. Hardest part is movement of people rotating out of jobs and expertise is lost.
Pros
Good salary and benefits
Cons
Slow to react

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Newberg, OR 97132April 12, 2016
Good place to start out, but the employees are entirely unmotivated and the upper management only seems to care about profits, and not whether the store is clean or maintained properly. Things would break quite often, and wouldn't be replaced or fixed for up to 6 months. Contains outside work in all weather conditions.
Pros
Friendly employees, friendly customers, easy work.
Cons
Second and third shift went without breaks despite it being Oregon law, store is in constant disrepair.
