Cashier and Customer Service (Current Employee), Garner, NCApril 9, 2015
Cons: no healthcare benefits
I love working for shoe carnival. I've been there for six years. Fellow employee's and management made the experience go nice and smooth. The hardest part of the job was learning how to do returns when our buy one get one half price is going on. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to see my fellow employees rise to the top of the company.

Working at the Shoe Carnival taught me a lot about what not to do as an Assistant Manager. There were some positive moments working there, but more negativity than anything.

Nice at first but a nightmare later
Sales associate/Cashier (Former Employee), Daytona Beach, FLMarch 26, 2015
Pros: flexible hours, good first job experience
Cons: bad management, short breaks, supplies not kept stocked
This was my first job and it was going very well despite starting a week before back to school with little time to actually train me. But after changing the general manager everything change to be very hectic and without a definite end point. The new manager made everything disorganized and horrible to work at his store. He constantly leaned in favoritism and I was obviously not one of his "favs". Even being new to working I know that you do not yell and call the attention of an employee in front of a customer or during a very busy time of the day.

Good place for a first job.
Sales Associate and Cashier (Current Employee), Florissant, MissouriMarch 23, 2015
It is a good place when to begin working. Most of the employees are teenagers. Management is usually older. They have been very flexible working with my heavy academic and I appreciate that. I've worked at two different locations and the way the store is run depends on the managers.

Fun and Enjoyable Environment
Cashier / Sales Associate / Men's Department Lead (Current Employee), Tamarac, FLMarch 17, 2015
Working at Shoe Carnival is very fun, in a way that you know everyone that you work with, helping out the customers here and there, and just being yourself. I got to know all my co-workers within a couple weeks, so we understand each other very well. The work or tasks that need to be done around the store is not that hard. There are there main tasks in the store which are cashier, helping customers or organizing the isles throughout the store. The only thing is hard is like finding around place to put certain shoes in a different location in the store. The main roles I do at this job are cashier, sales associate, and run the men's department. This is a great first job!

Pros: 30 min lunch

The store was really slow at times the managers didnt really bother training us too much on how to sell shoes or inform us of new in-store products and some key information about the products.

Fun environment, but not for family man
General Manager (Current Employee), Charlotte, NCMarch 2, 2015
For managers, they expect you to work 48 hours a week, at least 2 nights a week, and you only get one weekend off a month. It is discouraged to have more than one weekend of vacation at time. With store hours being 930 to 9 in most locations, the shifts worked for managers generally mean you miss all after school activities or are late to most school functions. The flexibility of the schedule can be nice at times, as the days off are often chosen, and can change from week to week. The atmosphere is fun and fast, and depending on the area you work in, can be great. The bigger the store the more enjoyable the experience. Small locations are harder to handle. They have sporadic customer flow and it is difficult get all tasks done while meeting numbers and giving top notch customer service. The payroll is tight, so expect not to get paid much unless in a bigger store.
