This review is mostly for working admissions...
Dramaland... everyone knows everyone else's business, and if they don't, they assume based on opinions derived from what they see. (Though it's common everywhere in the tiny town...)
Management... for a short while caused more stress & anxiety than half the patients had coming into the ER. Briefly prior to leaving, it improved a lot.
Difficult to get time off when short staffed (which is pretty often the norm)
You learn quickly that you are expendable. You could be replaced in days, and sometimes you're reminded of this frequently. Turnover is HIGH. Pay raises based on numbers, not performance.
High stress jobs are one thing and common, but this place was a health hazard.
Oh, no safety guidelines for employees. No security. No set visitation hours (meaning people come and go as they please at any time, day or night). Check in desks are simple desks, and unprotected minus a "panic button"...
Communication is not a frequently practiced or understood concept.
You can charge your lunch & other in-hospital purchases (like pharmacy stuff) to payroll
Cafeteria food is decent, though not always a great selection.
Coffee Kiosk is AMAZING though not affiliated with the hospital so you have to pay in cash/debit.
Good OT pay... especially when understaffed.
ER nurses are great to work with!
Easy to change departments and work in other areas of the hospital.
