Simply Delicious was a small student run restaurant at North Pulaski High School. A typical day at work consisted of disposing of expired food items, setting the front-of-house, preparing a rotating menu of food items for sale, and cleaning front-of-house and back-of-house areas. While working here, I learned how to price menus, gauge flow of business, manage perishable inventory. I also developed strong customer service skills, and learned a great deal about suggestive selling techniques.
The management team consisted of a business manager/ culinary teacher, and several volunteer chefs from North Little Rock, Arkansas. This team of people devoted time to train employees by rotating them through all aspects of running a restaurant. These people created a team like atmosphere and promoted strong healthy professional work relationships.
Honestly, the most difficult part of the job of creating an attractive, cost efficient menu that would keep food cost low, quality high, and satisfy our consumer pool. This actually ended up being my favorite part of this job because it taught me a good amount of things and challenged me to be creative.
