I have been in the retail industry for a better part of 30 years, I am very good at what I do but the time has come for a change in careers. A typical day for me at Walgreen's would be customer service, stocking merchandise, checking inventory status of merchandise, price changes, cash handling, merchandising.
I have inquired a vast knowledge of the variety of merchandise we carry, especially in the OTC (over the counter) medications.
The management team for Walgreen's varies, they switch managers around from store to store every few months or years. I have had some great managers and some not so great ones. Some of the managers there are just there for a paycheck and to be a body, while others are there for this is their career.
My co-workers are some of the best people I have met, and I have formed life-long friendships with, there are a few there that have no clue on what they are doing, even after you explain it to them a few doesn't times.
The hardest part of the job is the physical aspects, not as young as I use to be, so being on my feet all day takes a toll on ones body,
The best part of the job is when I get to form relationships with my regular customers, I get to see them, know them by name, get to know their families.
