SMG Management wants to take you out to a ball game, or a concert, or a convention. SMG is one of the world's largest entertainment facility management companies. The firm manages arenas, stadiums, performing arts centers, and convention centers throughout North America and Europe, as well as one in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Its services include – more... event booking and management, cash management, maintenance, and risk management and security. Facilities managed by SMG annually host more than 10,000 events, and include more than 1.5 million seats. SMG was founded in 1977 with the management of its first facility, New Orleans' Louisiana Superdome, which is owned by the state.
SMG splits its operations into a convention center division (which manages a large chunk of North America's publicly-owned convention space), and a stadiums and arenas division. The company provides food and beverage services through its SAVOR subsidiary, which services more than 130 locations worldwide.
More than 200 facilities operate under the company's management, including some 75 arenas, about 10 stadiums, more than 50 performing arts centers, nearly 70 convention centers, and more than 15 other recreational facilities (such as Churchill Downs).
In addition to the Louisiana Superdome, the company also manages the New Orleans Arena and the New Orleans Cultural Center, all of which shuttered in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Superdome reopened in September 2006. Repairs and improvements cost about $185 million. Another multi-phase renovation to the Superdome, worth some $320 million, was completed in 2011.
