Senior Association Associate (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCOctober 1, 2017
If you don't know what direction you want your career to go in this is a good starting point. You will be in charge of a lot, but you have some autonomy. The managers are not trained on how to be effective at all.

Great Place to Grow
Operations Manager, Lamaze International (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCSeptember 24, 2017
SmithBucklin is a great place to grow and learn - lots of opportunities to take projects and run with them. Actual job experiences can vary quite a bit based on client/manager, but ultimately a great place to hone skills and grow.

You can gain experience and move your career forward. I enjoy the benefits and work life balance. You work with a great deal of people within your age group and there are ample opportunities to travel.

Busy Atmosphere
FINANCIAL MANAGER / EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO CIO (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILAugust 16, 2017
I worked with some very intelligent individuals. The company is very driven to meet their goals and they expect the same from their employees. The company does an annual outing for all employees and was always a fun time for all. The most difficult part of working with this company were the hours as you were expected to work until everything was completed and at the time this was difficult for me due to being a new mother over the last couple of years I was employed.
Pros
Pleasant atmosphere, good training, work/life balance
Cons
Too many hours

Content Specialist (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILJune 7, 2017
I did not enjoy my time at Smithbucklin. Turnover is high and departing employees are not always replaced. Workloads are too heavy. Pay is too low. Management is ineffective because workflow and matrix environment is confusing.
Pros
Good office location
Cons
Turnover, workload, bratty millennial coworkers

Senior Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCMay 30, 2017
Great place to earn a lot of experience quickly, especially early in your career. Stay for 2-3 years and move on to your next step. Experience highly depends on manager and team.

Sales Manager (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILMay 29, 2017
There is a lot of collaboration and teamwork as well as high exposure to all assets of association management, but also high expectation you will work around the clock, including weekends and vacations.
Pros
Great people.
Cons
Poor work/life balance.

Big company, diverse clients, many learning opportunities.
Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Washington City, DCJanuary 8, 2017
SmithBucklin has allowed me to grow and learn more than I have in any position before this one. However, the business model means that all employees are stretched too thin, making it hard to get things done at times. Management seems out of touch and more focused on making money.

Great coworkers, lack of proper staffing
Manager (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILNovember 4, 2016
The people and clients we work with are great, and there is a lot of opportunity for advancement. However, they do not prioritize proper staffing and think that everyone should just work evenings and weekends for little pay. If the profit margins aren't good, they will sacrifice great employees and burn them out.

Fun but demanding work
Coordinator/Operations & Membership Director (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 29, 2015
Working as a coordinator is a demanding job that requires great patience and customer service skills. It is a position where one can, and does, wear several different hats in one day.

SmithBucklin is a place where you can truly see the power of people who have a passion for their cause. Working with the various associations is eye-opening and inspiring.
