Night Crew Stocking Shelves & Facing Store (Current Employee), Brampton, ON – May 21, 2012
Its a really good work environment with a lot of friendly people. The hardest part of the job is when you putting up the stock to make sure you rotate the produce 100% !!
Overall, days at Sobeys were good. I worked in my neighborhood so I knew quite a few people. I enjoyed my job.
Customer Service (Former Employee), Halifax, NS – May 19, 2012
Pros: i lived steps away from work, we had a fun group of people who work there, i worked monday thru friday.
Cons: no benefits, was at max pay, could not go higher in the business.
A typical day at work would be a customer complaining that they were charged too much or were not satisfied with product. Most of the time I would price adjust or try to fix the situation as best I could. Now and then I would make judement calls to satisfy the customer which then I would report to my supervisor and explain the situation and what I did. I – more... learned that satisfying a customer the best I can is better than watching that customer walk out the store unsatisfied and have negative thoughts about our store or company for that matter. Especially when there is competition. Management and my co-workers were great. In my opinion we were like "new" family. I enjoyed working with them . I also keep in touch with a few of my co-workers, even my then-manager . The hardest part of my job was calming a customer down and "make it right". Sometimes a customer would have rude remarks to say to you or about the company and you just have to let it roll off your shoulders and not take it personal. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know them. That they notice if your not working and ask for you or you laugh and carry on with them. You can engage in a comfortable and flowing conversation with them...I like that! – less

Cons: travelling distance
Decent Hours. Great co workers. Friendly environment. Learned how to properly work alone efficiently. The hardest part was adapting to working over nights. The most enjoyable was all the nice and friendly people i had a chance to meet.

Sobeys is a great place to work. The management staff is very friendly. The work environment is clean. The most enjoyable part about the job is the environment and serving the customers.
deli worker (Former Employee), Port Perry, ON – April 27, 2012
Cons: not enough hours
not bad place to work I would go back to work in port perry only in different dept. my daughter works in the deli. but would love to go back in new department.
Coworkers were personable, the work was not challenging but was tedious
Grocery Clerk (Former Employee), Leduc, AB – April 24, 2012
Pros: inexpensive lunches, friendly coworkers, easy work
Cons: short handed, hard to get consistent shift hours
I enjoyed the social atmosphere here. No one was better than the other, including most of the managers who were down to earth. The work was kind of dull, atleast for me. This is in no way a reflection of Sobeys, but I believe just a fact of working retail. An opportunity came up towards the end of my employment, because of new incoming technology, in – more... which I could use my mind a little more. I felt more engaged because of this.
Another thing I would like to comment on is the fact that there were no periodic wage reviews. One had to really push to get a fair wage. Also the work was not too stressful unless it was busy and/or we were short handed (The latter which seemed to occur much too frequently). – less
In a typical day at work, I would scan and bag groceries and also help with customer questions and concerns. I learnt how to be a team player as well as how to efficiently and effectively interact with customers. My co workers were of all different ages and all had their own unique reasons for working at Sobeys. It was great to work with such a diverse – more... group. I found that you can truly learn from anyone. The hardest part of my job was dealing with customers that were impatient. It was also repetative at times. The most enjoyable part of the job was the respect I earned from my supervisors as well as the compeitions that were hosted to improve job performance. – less
Cashier (Former Employee), Yarmouth, NS – March 28, 2012
Sobeys is a great company, focused on the customer. The working environment is pleasant and friendly. The managers are easy to work with and always helpful and easy to approach. It was easy to get time off in an emergency and to get more shifts when you needed them.
Meat Clerk/Wrapper- Meat Department (Former Employee), Saint John, NB – March 27, 2012
Cons: not enough hours to live on, you were slaved left and right
That job did nothing but waste my time. People I encountered were zombies and didn't have the ability to live it seemed. Employees that tried to work honestly were shafted.
Deli Department (Former Employee), Regina, SK – March 27, 2012
Working at Sobeys was fun and easy! Laughed and joked around with the co-workers and the customers were great. It wasn't really a hard job, I enjoyed working there. Forgot to mention that the hours were very flexible.
Cashier (Current Employee), Elmwood Dr Moncton – March 25, 2012
Typical day is helping our customers with their purchases. Helping theim locate items and advising them of in store specials. Sobeys has a great stall and is a fun place with everyone eager to help each other out.. The hardest part of the job is standing all day on concrete floors.
Very respectful business with lots of patient managers.
Cashier (Former Employee), Orangeville, Ontario – January 12, 2012
Pros: breaks during every shift, full training, learn to have respect and responsibility, etc.
Cons: honestly there were no cons.
I worked at Sobeys shortly after turning the legal age to work in Canada. They had great training with great employees helping me out every step of the way, until I was able to become more individually inclined. They taught me how to do the job properly including giving the most respect to every customer. Sobeys is a great place to work at and I highly – more... regret quitting but I had to make more room for school at the time. I highly recommend applying to Sobeys. – less
