Inventory Control (Current Employee) –  St. Louis, MOJanuary 14, 2017
I have been at Soft Surroundings for a year. The business is growing fast, and we have a lot of freedom to manage our businesses. Management is supportive and encourages us to be entrepreneurial. Work life balance is a priority. In these days of retail struggles, this place is an oasis.
Pros
work life balance, teamwork, supportive leadership, financial stability

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Glen Mills, PAJanuary 11, 2017
Surrounded by a great staff of great people, owner of the company (Robin) considers and offers herself in touch to the associates, offers and promotes "Robin's gift" attitude everyday. It is a pleasure to work for a company that promotes a work/life balance since I am a single mother of 2. The customers are a pleasure to work with and since there are only a few stores in limited locations, our customers come from miles around to spend many hours at our store. Soft Surroundings has been a catalog company for close to 10 years and has an impressive following. Our customers are a pleasure to work with, get to know and grow friendships with. I have worked retail for 28 years and have not found a place that is such a pleasure to work for as Soft Surroundings.

dont work here. worst job ever
associate (Former Employee) –  glen mills paNovember 19, 2016
The store is beautiful. The store manager treats everyone terrible except her favorites . Managers are quitting because of her. I am so happy I quit. I would be in tears after I left. So demeaning. They say there is no commission but you are forced to over sell. No real benefits either. I even wrote a letter to Hr. They never even responded. Don't do it.

Terrible management
Puller (Former Employee) –  Mexico, MOMarch 5, 2016
If you work here, don't expect to ever get any requested days off. You'll be forced to use your very few absences and eventually get fired. The pay is terrible compared to other similar jobs in this town. The benefits are expensive except for dental, even for a single person. The management is lazy and they just sit in their office for most of the shift. There is VERY little room advancement in this company. The most enjoyable part of this job was clocking out and going home.
Pros
None
Cons
No family time, short breaks, lots of mandatory overtime

Unorganized
Sales Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MOFebruary 15, 2016
You are brainwashed during your interview and your training.

They are very unorganized

About 4 bathroom stalls to use between a lot of women. So its nasty.

Theives

New rule is changed every other day.

No Team Lead or Supervisor help unless you are one of their favorites.

You are not valued as an employee. You are an accessory to any one in a higher position than you.

No consideration for personal issues or family problems.

Favoritism

Will not train you properly. Will want to quit first day on the floor because of lack of knowledge.
Pros
The outside is pretty.

Soft Surroundings is not soft
Customer Service & Support Representative (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MOApril 24, 2015
. With any job you have your ups and downs. Management promotes a soft experience for the customer however they are hard on the employees. The turn over rate is ridiculous. There attendance point system is ridiculous and unfair. The clothing and furniture is over priced and not of good quality. Some of the supervisors try and micomanage you which causes uneeded stress. Several perks were to my advantage as a employee clothing &

Call Center Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Creve Coeur, MODecember 5, 2014
This company will give you a chance to learn new things on the computer & also teach you skills you can use towards future positions.... BUT the customers are horrible, calls are stressful, management is down your throat making you harass customers for sales just to not bonus. Unrealistic goals which sets you up to fail. Management also laughs & jokes all day and get attitudes when you ask for help. Every single boss is a contradiction! They tell you to NOT do things they walk around doing. Everybody is gossiping even management, QA, H&R will gossip EVERYONE. No respect for employees will write you up quick just to keep you on your last leg so they can fire you at their own discretion. Meanwhile the founder is flying all over the country basking in all the hard work you do giving no recognition. I've had a lot of jobs but this is hands down the worse I've ever experienced!!!You can have the best customer service skills on the planet if they don't like you personally, you're gone. Thank God I was blessed to find a less stressful higher paying job!
Pros
You can leave for lunch.
Cons
Management, rude customers, easy write ups, point system is a set up to fail, the entire company system set up to fail.

Great Benefits, with headaches
Stock Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Lynnfield, MaOctober 15, 2014
I worked with this company for about four weeks. You are happy with benefits, because they are great. But don't get the management upset. If they don't like you, your life can be horrible there. The hardest part of the job is trying to take a break and that they just don't trust their employees, constant bag checks and even have to get a manager to even open the back door for you can do trash or take in a shipment. You are told everyday, the unrealistic number of sales needed. You are given lists day and night, of things to do and also, told to give the customers extra things to try on while they are in the fitting room area, to drive sales. The most enjoyable part of the job are the clothes and the 50% discount. The clothes are so beautiful and comfortable. They expect you to be a perfect employee and no exceptions. Just a very hostile environment.
Pros
Great Benefits and clothes
Cons
point system, hard to take breaks and favorism, if you make sales.

I assist in month end close processes that include bank reconciliations, posting journal entries, state sales and use tax preparation and submittal.

I have gained valuable training in the financial statement process from beginning to end and all of the parts that contribute to the creation of the financial statements.

I really enjoyed the flex scheduling environment.
