I worked at Sonic continuously for 4 years while attending high school and the first year of college (only in the summer though). I liked the people that I worked with at Sonic; however, I wouldn't ever want to work as a cook again. Let's just say it gave me an appreciation for going to school to further my education and chances of a good job.

Skating Carhop (Former Employee), Monroeville, ALJune 24, 2014
Pros: social expansion
Cons: not much of a discount
Everyday my managers and co workers opened their arms to me and made me feel respected and as a valued member of the crew. I learned flexibility and the importance or a positive attitude. The hardest part was listening through the head piece to take orders. My favorite part of the day was generally making my customers and crew smile.

Carhop (Former Employee), Lexington, NCJune 23, 2014
Working at Sonic was fun yet was horrible on my legs because I was on skates the whole time. I learned how to talk to people and work with rude co-workers. The management was good. My co-workers were a mix of good and bad. The hardest part of the job was being on skates for a long time. The best part of the job was the people I've met.

Crew Member/Cook/Manager in Training (Former Employee), Queen Creek, AZJune 23, 2014
Pros: half price lunch, great crew and manager
Cons: no breaks, hot in building
I didn't really have a typical day at work. I usually did something different, anything from cooking to cleaning and stocking, running drive thru and handling money or making drinks and ice cream. I learned that hard work does pay off and its worth it to put all your effort into your job. The management team was a little rocky at times but my general – more... manager was always awesome. My co-workers changed every few months but each group had their own pros and cons. The hardest part of the job was that it was in Arizona heat and it got really hot in the building. The most enjoyable part of the job was that I just loved my job and everything I did. – less

A job's a job. Wouldn't suggest this to be a full time career.
Car Hop (Current Employee), Waco, TXJune 21, 2014
Pros: free drinks, tips
Cons: hardly on the schedule, if on hardly any hours
A typical day working at sonic consisted of clocking in, getting my changer and arm band, then clocking out any orders and preparing to take them out to the customer. when we are not so busy I make sure my chores are done and if any other work needs to be done and then prepare bags. This job had taught me listening skills and understanding. The management – more... is different from what I was use to. The hardest part of the job is working around everyone when we are busy because it is such a small area for the amount of people there. The best part of my day is doing my last round of chores before having to count down my changer and go home. – less

Not a good job by any means
Carhop (Former Employee), Fort Worth, TXJune 19, 2014
Pros: getting to ride around on skates
Cons: building is always hot, co-workers are not that great, customers were usually hard to deal with, never really any downtime, no one cares about the job
The work is hard and not fulfilling. I learned how to handle cash here because it was my first job, and how to deal with rude customers, but that is about it. The management does not care about employees and hardly ever granted requests off. My co-workers were sort of nice, but there was not really anyone I wanted to be around or get to know. The hardest – more... part of the job was basically everything. The most enjoyable part was leaving. – less

Cons: everything about the job
this place was always a mess from the management to the people who work there. pay is low for the amount of work needed to be done. as a kitchen manager i had someone come in under me and was a favorite to a manager and became a manager without knowing how to even run a shift at all not a good place

It's okay I mean it's stressful
Carhop and Crew (Former Employee), Westland, MIJune 18, 2014
Pros: half off food
Cons: no paid vacations, healthcare
It's pretty busy almost everyday. From 2p-4p we have half off fountain drinks and slushes and then after 8p we have half off shakes and malts. We don't have set times to when we get off and they like to keep their employees longer than excepted not caring if they have to get up early the next day and be back at the same place. It's pretty cluttered. – more... We never have any room or either we don't have enough people during the night. – less

This job is a great work place for teens to learn to appreciate a job, count money, learn to open up if they are shy, and also a great place to learn to have fun with a job. There is nothing hard about the job first 2 days may be difficult but after that everything else comes natural.

A typical day at work was messy and slow. The management was poor, the managers always seemed to have attitudes. The co-workers were very nice. the hardest part of the job was when there would be a rush right before we closed.

Carhop (Former Employee), Sherwood, ARJune 17, 2014
This was the first job I ever had, and it wasnt so bad. I loved how we worked on tips and also still got paid minimum wage, which being 17 was a lot of money to me back then. I worked on skates so that made my job even more worth going to, plus my employees at sonic always keep laughter going on at work, so my first job was a blast.
