Pros: flexible schedule, no lesson planning necessary
Cons: not well-paying, not a lot of jobs available
Not a lot of work available for substitute teachers. If you are planning to become a teacher I would recommend substitute teaching for job experience, otherwise skip it. Doesn't pay very well and job availability is very sporadic. The hardest part of the job is keeping all the kids under control and the most enjoyable part is choosing when you work and helping the kids learn. Everyone I've met at Sonoma County Office of Education has been helpful, but as a sub you are pretty much on your own.
