I have had excellent opportunities for career growth at Sony Electronics over the course of several years. The electronics industry is a challenging industry at this time and all manufacturers need to be agile and flexible in adjusting to meet consumer demands.

Silicon Valley office is more of a sales engineering branch--very few amenities.
Business Planner for Energy (Former Employee), San Jose, CAJanuary 21, 2015
Pros: small flat organizational structure.
Cons: limited options for work life balance. 12-15 hour days should be expected.
Due to heavy downsizing, Silicon Valley was reduced from a 11 acre complex in 2006 to 2 floors within a 6 floor Building on First Street. The headquarters was moved to San Diego. No on site amenities. The office was very minimal when it came to perks.

Typical Japanese top-down, totalitarian corporate culture
Technical Support Specialist I (Former Employee), Long Beach, CAJanuary 19, 2015
Pros: compensation and benefits
Cons: fascistic corporate culture
If you are a closet fascist, Sony or any other large Japanese corporation might work for you. Any perceived break in the ranks (pretty much any independent thought) will be punished harshly. Every employee is like a prison trustee motivated to abuse and inform management on other employees' behavior. You live to work. You are always wrong. The only bright side is that they paid us well to take this sort of abuse for 12 hours a day.

Unlike American companies, they will not pretend to like you until they can find a way to get rid of you. Like Nike, they just do it. You're gone, and no worries about pesky state employment regulations or U.S. federal law. On the other hand, if you turn your life and mind over to them in totality, you will probably do well there and have a job for life.

Most people that work there are incredibly talented. Benefits and facilities are fantastic. Leadership very focused on hitting short-term sales goals, long-term planning is not done often enough.

Logistics Lead/Sales Associate (Former Employee), Orlando, FLOctober 2, 2014
Pros: family feel
Cons: management was a little disorganized
A typical work day is fast paced, focused, team oriented and interactive with products and customers as a demonstration. There was plenty to learn from daily product and policy training, to interactive hands on training with the product and peer to peer training. The management overall was average, there was some lack of organization, communication and firm understanding between managers but open to ideas, that affected the associates but they were willing to work on it. As a team, associates helped management with their ideas and opinions which improved functionality in the store. The hardest part was leaving. Being the hard worker I am, I worked long productive hours and was always willing to help where I can in each department, when needed. Leaving Sony was one of the hardest things I had to do. I enjoyed the family feel we had there and the customers excitement entering and leaving the store satisfied.
