Sourcebooks, Inc., a fast-growing, innovative, technologically driven independent book publisher, with a rapidly growing technology department located in the western suburbs of Chicago, seeks an outstanding individual for an opportunity as a full-time Associate PHP Web Developer.

This is an exciting opportunity for a multi-tasking developer with high energy and excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Code custom applications using PHP for ecommerce platform and Joomla websites
  • Manage and maintain ecommerce platforms
  • Develop front-end and back-end applications and customizations
  • Utilize the PHP frameworks to program efficient and secure applications
  • Design, coding, optimization and integration with other 3rd party systems
  • QA all programming changes, fixes and updates as needed, working with the development and test sites to ensure functionality
  • Performing detailed quality tests of the software in addition to usability to ensure that new releases of the software products are ‘bug free’
  • Create templates for shopping cart and CMS
  • Work with Marketing to review requirements, scope new features/enhancements and timing.
  • Ensure sites are optimized for speed and cross browser compatibility
  • Collaborate in a team environment in order to grow and enhance our network of sites
  • Project manage task load of programming projects
  • Ability to create documentation and create user guides
  • Provide internal website support

Job Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

  • 4 year bachelor’s degree in IT or Web Design preferred
  • 3 years of relevant web development and ecommerce experience
  • 3+ years of PHP and MySql programming preferred
  • Strong html/html5 and CSS skills
  • Experience coding in a popular PHP based MVC framework for a high volume system (Zend Framework, CodeIgnitor, etc) a plus
  • Solid experience with JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery and XML
  • Previous experience with ecommerce platforms like Magneto, DemandWare or other equivalent platforms a plus
  • Previous experience with a CMS like Joomla a plus
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and Core Metrics tagging a plus
  • Knowledge of Photoshop a plus
  • Knowledge of mobile and responsive websites a plus
  • Knowledge of web hosting and web servers a plus (L.AM.P stack)
