Double Edged Sword, Somethings Never Change
Department Director (Current Employee), Nashville, TNFebruary 23, 2014
Pros: everybody knows each other
Cons: everybody knows each other
Although the majority of the staff at SHMC are loving caring people, some of the longest held employees still treat many of the support staff (ie; housekeepers, dietary, transport, CNA's) like subclass citizens. Many of them, like the ER charge nurses, think they have the right to direct other department staff. Sometimes this leads to confrontations – more... between various department supervisors. Rather than allowing each department manager to manage their own staff, they feel they have the right to over-ride any decision made that they do not agree with. This action is often times followed by mass emails to upper management and HCA corporate offices slandering the department manager that did not agree with them.

Basically, if they don't like you, they make all efforts to replace you. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with your work performance and dedication to patient care.

Highly Political Atmosphere and too many "chiefs". – less

Busy; fun; learned how to interact with patients and their families; great teamwork among coworkers; hardest part was busy workload; most enjoyable part was working directly with patients.

Enjoyed how other nurses would jump in to assist on diffucult cases. I'm very big on team work. It just helps with patient care and flow of the unit.

Credentialing Assistant / Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Nashville,TNMarch 30, 2012
I worked for 8 years with Southern Hills Medical Center. It was a great place to work. They tried to make all of their employees happy in their jobs and it created a wonderful atmosphere to be in. There was a good balance with work and being able to handle your personal things that might come up such as doctor appts, etc.
