Company puts profit before Safety, Integrity, Employees
Engineer (Former Employee), Plant Hatch – April 2, 2012
Pros: good benefits, long term employment
Cons: company puts profit before safety, integrity, employees
Southern Co looks very good on paper. It appears to be one of the best companies. Well, I thought so too.

Unfortunately, after working for them for several months, I realized there was a lot of talk and very little to back it. Southern Nuclear put profit before Safety, Integrity and Employees.

The Plant Hatch President stated at a all hands meeting, – more... when questioned about moral, "There is a fence around this plant. It is is keep people out, not in".

Southern Nuclear personnel were scared and afraid for their jobs.

I recommend that you talk wit Southern Co employees before taking any job with them.... find someone who will be honest with you....

Management would not stand up for what was right when it came to employee safety and plant safety. – less

Start-Up /Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee), Smyrna, GA – March 23, 2012
Pros: employees, benefits
Cons: no overtime pay, management, and opportunities for promotion
I am well pleased with this company overall but there are times when you question management decisions an your voice isn't heard. I am honored to be a employee. I have learned alot about engineering in general an this job has help me to determine my strengths and weaknesses. A typical day to day work is a heavy workload but nothing you can't handle. – more... The best part of the job is the employees we work together through all things. – less
