An exciting place to work because there is a feeling of direct contribution to the final product
International Subcontract Administrator (Former Employee), Palo Alto, CASeptember 24, 2013
Pros: exciting, thought provolking
Cons: poor work-life balance culture
A typical work day, at SS/L consisted of subcontract management, team meeting, supplier overall review teleconferences, solicitations of competitive offers for each program toward the end result of writing a new subcontract, and customer care.

complacent workplace
STRUCTURES DESIGN ENGINEERING LEAD (Former Employee), Palo Alto, CAMarch 2, 2013
Pros: hours were good for me
Cons: unwilling to change/improve, no training
No training was provided to enhance my knowledge skills. I was told to request to go to any training that came up (which I was never aware of any) so that my manager could see if there was any funding and so that he could go ask upper management for funding fo rthis training. This was for internal training.
It took 14 months to get an appropriate computer – more... (a 64-bit machine) that would handle the tasks i was being requested to do, so most of the time I had to plant myself in a conference room (which had a 64-bit computer) and work around all of the meetings going in and out of there daily.
The software packages they used were custom developed for them almost 15 years ago and have not been updated. the user friendliness and learning curve on these software packages were horrendous and the system is highly unstable. When asked why they dont replace/upgrade the software, they say its too expensive. So employees continue to use it and perform unknown hours of rework with these systems.
The people were friendly and easy to get along with. – less

An OK place to work
Program Planning Analyst (Current Employee), Palo Alto, CAOctober 13, 2012
Pros: mid sized company so everyone knows each other
Cons: not many young people
If you want to settle down this is the company for you. All of the manufacturing people get to work very early (arrival between 4am and 6am) and the engineers come in around 9am. There is a huge age gap, either you're early 20s to mid 30s or you're over 50 years old. Everyone in the company is pretty close knit.

A favoritism company
employee (Former Employee), Palo Alto, CASeptember 11, 2012
Pros: interesting place to work
Cons: not a happy place to work everyday
Space Systems/LoraL is a good company with a lot of smart people.
However; there are several problems. Management in just about every group are very unprofessional. A lot of managemant are sleeping with the employees. Other management hold the employees to do their job while they sit in their office and do who knows what. A lot of managers have favoritism. – more... They will promote cousins/family, or best friends first before promoting a detecated well deserved person that has been there longer and knows more.
Also, one of the objectives is to increase your knowledge, improvements etc... by 10% each year, but the company/managers refuse to send you to any classes to advance in your carreer and or group. So basically you must improve without any support or tools and if not, you get written up and possibly fired! Good company, terrible management and values/morals. – less

Great place to work overall but not 5 stars
Contract Print Production Specialist (Former Employee), Palo Alto, CAJuly 22, 2012
Pros: friendly, with nice staff & mgmt, & fun learing what they do
Cons: security is overly tight with everyone & parking
Atmosphere with employees & mgmt is great, & almost everyone is very friendly & nice, & the material they do is alot of fun to work with & print, however, it's not 5 stars to due to their security staff who have alot of power over there, & I do mean alot of power. They really push you around & watch everyone alot, & heaven help you if you forget your – more... security card to get into place, even the basic buildings they have. It's a massive problem with them, even if you worked there for years. That & trying to find parking on their parking lots were the only negatives. – less
