Medical BIlling Specialist (Current Employee), Lansing, MI – June 7, 2013
Pros: peers, social functions the employer sponsors for the associates
Cons: short lunch periods, long sitting hours
This company has a variety of employees with diverse backgrounds. Professionals from various regions come to work at this facility.
Friendly work enviroment, continuing education and the premise of the patient is most important makes this company valued in the community.
Peers are professional, yet friendly.
Hardest part on my job is the lengtly sitting – more... required for my duties. – less

Beware Sparrow Management...
Patient Care Tech (Current Employee), Lansing, MI – May 20, 2013
Pros: decent pay
Cons: very poor management in some areas, if you're not a rn or better you get treated like garbage
I've been with Sparrow for years and worked in a few different areas and have found the management consistently is inexperienced/not best for the management role. The behavioral health, namely SAU, is horrendous. Managers are immature and inconsistent, they pick and choose favorites and you'd better hope you're one, or they'll look for any reason to – more... write you up. They have a high turnover rate with no one wanting to fill the day position due to one RN in particular that has chased off at least ten techs with her demeaning attitude. The motto is "everyone loves Sparrow nurses" yeah, unless you work as a PCT, because then you'll be treated like a slave, busting your back while the RN's sit at the nurse's station gossiping and playing on their phones, giving you grief or avoiding you altogether if you ask for assistance with anything. So yeah, Sparrow is a "great" place to work, you'd just better hope you're being hired on as a RN or higher or else you're seen as disposable, no one takes you seriously, and you get treated like dirt. – less

Excellent in-house Epic staffing and project leadership
Physician Analyst; Order Set Team Lead (Current Employee), Lansing, MI – December 19, 2012
Pros: no micro-management, rather support and guidance
Cons: project infrastructure in separate location from main hospital; inconvenient at times, but not detrimental to to the effort
Sparrow did a superb job of preparing its in-house project teams and had the wisdom to understand the value add that consultants bring to a project based on their multiple, prior experiences. This allowed for decision making based more on real-world information and less reliance on supposition. A great place to have worked.

Proactive and challenging organzation to work for.
Security Officer (Current Employee), Lansing, MI – August 24, 2012
Pros: good benefits, flexible work hours
Cons: staffing issues, out-dated equipment
I provide safety/security operations for the hospital. As a security officer, I spend my shifts patrolling the interior and exterior of the properties, looking for access control issues. I also respond to calls for assistance with combative patients/unwanted visitors. I have learned many skills with defensive tactics, de-escalation techniques, and the – more... ability to deal with stressful situations. My co-workers are great and we all work together well as a team. I have a great management staff who provide our department with wonderful leadership skills. The hardest part of the job is dealing with out-dated equipment. The most enjoyable part of the job is the challenge of coming to work every day, and never knowing what to expect. Each day is different than any other. – less

Sparrow was a wonderful employer. I was able to broaden my experiences by working in different departments. I was able to come in contact with my intelligent physicians, nurses and other staff. It was a pleasure to be a part of the Sparrow team.
