GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with other staff to identify and prioritize yearly sports training needs for coaches and develop long term coach education strategic plan
Collaborate with other staff to ensure consistent delivery of quality sports training opportunities and oversee coach certification process in the Southern Region to ensure adherence to all established guidelines
Identify, recruit and train knowledgeable volunteers to serve as clinicians for sports training events
Provide sport event management support and training to the Southern Region Area Directors, including event management training for staff and key volunteers, day of event support, Games Management Software training and support, divisioning, scheduling, facility identification, sports officials recruitment, sports rules clarification and interpretation, key volunteer identification and recruitment, attendance at event planning meetings and event evaluations
Assist with other department state level events as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree
Two to four years’ experience in coaching or the field of sports administration

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Special Olympics experience with working knowledge of sports rules, sports skills development, coaching ethics and coaching fundamentals
Experience in sports event management and volunteer management
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Ability to learn relational databases and manage records housed within those databases
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines

WORK SCHEDULE:
Based in the Southern Regional Office in Highland, IL
Monday through Friday with evenings and weekends as the position demands
Extensive in-state travel (approximately 70%) including overnight and weekend travel
Reports to Director of Sports and Competition
