Night Shift Lead Fork Lift Operator (Former Employee), Akron, OH – November 5, 2012
Company was okay to work for. My experience with Spectrum Brands opened up my mind to different ways of handling the inventory wich pasted thru the warehouse
Production Worker (Former Employee), St. Louis, MO – October 9, 2012
The job was pretty decent. The Company hired and laid off alot of the times. They hire and then laid the people that the hire off in about a month of just working. That was something I never understood.
NPD Manager (Current Employee), Madison, WI – October 5, 2012
Pros: culture
Cons: 401k match is slightly under average
I have been working at this company for over two months. I am impressed by the management and leadership team for their honest and forward description of their plans and past actions. With them communicating their intentions, employees are motivated to do what is right for the customers and company. People at this company work-hard are competent and – more... responsive to ideas, change and having fun. It makes for an energetic place to work with new challenges everyday. The hardest part of the job is the odd hours where you may be on conference calls with people around the globe. It varies by job position but being able to be flexible is essential. – less
Intern (Former Employee), St. Louis, MO – September 7, 2012
Pros: free lunches, great people
I learned about all sorts of system design calculations, how to write SOPs, what a robotic line looks like. It was fun, intimidating, and sometimes a little bit overwhelming. I deeply enjoyed my time there, and would enjoy working with them again in the future. Also, they gave me a cake on my last day. I've never had a full sheet cake before, but ohmygod – more... they are ginormous.
The people were friendly, the projects were time sensitive and required lots of interaction with many employees, and the workplace was clean. The management was awesome. They were all hard working, patient. It was ideal. – less
Great people, very long days, some decent management
Product Manager (Current Employee), Madison – August 14, 2012
Pros: really great people
Cons: changing direction, long hours
The Madison office has over 500 employees and has the potential to do some really great game-changing things. The battery group is pretty balanced, the Remmington group is fun, kitchen appliance group has few people managing a ton of work. Most who make it give no opposition even when the path is knowingly wrong. Pendulum swings from extreme left to – more... extreme right. Not uncommon to see mass exodus. Learn about the CEO and Operations leads (style and vision) before interviewing to middle / senior management roles in any department. – less
It was a good place to work at. Flexible and versatile.
Merchandising Chemical Sales Representative (Former Employee), Denver, CO – July 11, 2012
Pros: flexible for time off, free lunch meetings
Cons: long days sometimes from ten to twelve hour days.
It was nice to go from store to store, and from one location to another and made sure the products we carried was on stock. To also educate the public on product knowledge.
It's only a temp job no matter what is said in the interview
Associate Representative (Former Employee), Madison, WI – June 17, 2012
Pros: freedom of the great outdoors unloading 50 pound sacks of fertilizer
Cons: hard labor with no long future
Can't say anything bad about the job. It's a temporary job so don't plan for a future. No gold watch, no retirement, and just more no longevity. It can pay 17k for half a years worth of hard labor.
Expeditor (Contractor) (Former Employee), Bridgeton, MO – April 24, 2012
Pros: company food days with raffle gifts
Cons: no benefits if you were a contract worker
A day at Spectrum Brands typically starts with contacting a lot of companies who you gain a relationship with on a day to day basis. The good thing is that you have the same contact people on a regular. I learned the ends and outs of the company dealing with home & garden products. The management is typically uptight because they have quotas or deadlines – more... to reach. They are hard working....which is a good thing but can put a lot of strain on their employees. The hardest part of the job was to deal with a plate full of work with no assistance. The enjoyable part of the job was working with friendly people that felt like family. – less
Garden Counselor (Former Employee), Lakeland, FL – September 13, 2011
Pros: nice manager, good commissions
Cons: only temporary part-time
My experience was in FL. I had a great boss who took interest in my work, mentored, and challenged me to learn more. The job was part-time and what I wanted then. Low stress. Commissions were good so the more I sold, the more I made. I managed to double my hourly rate in no time. Sadly it was only a temporary position that lasted during the summers – more... only. I would probably still be there if it was full time with a chance of advancement. – less
