Structured facility that pushed change for the better and the future
Juvenile Treatment Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Highland Park, MIMarch 8, 2017
I had the privilege to work with some outstanding people at Spectrum. The youth that were placed there experience true treatment and hands on interventions to help them change the their toxic thinking. A day there in the center was always rewarding for me. I implemented the program and the effects were progressive. All the staff there were willing to go beyond the normal to reach, mold, shape and re-build the young men we serviced.

Youth Care Worker (Former Employee) –  Highland Park, MIJanuary 19, 2017
DO NOT work this job if you are educated. One of the poorest juvenile prisons in Michigan, if not the poorest. Horrible treatment of youth workers. No breaks. Mandation leaves you away from your life 8-16 hrs a day. Do NOT work this job.

Youth Specialist Worker (Former Employee) –  Detroit, MIJanuary 2, 2017
This job gives people the opportunity to help a child in need by giving them structure and stability. Mentoring and providing discipline often increase these children chances of becoming law abiding citizens.

Worst Employer Ever!
Youth Worker (Former Employee) –  Highland Park, MISeptember 16, 2016
Working with juvenile offenders and youth at risk is suppose to be a humanitarian job for individuals who want to help those who were abused and neglected. However, this is the worst employer ever. Communication between staff and management is not good and it's a shame that staff receives more information about the center from the residents instead of the management team. Also, the continuous mistreatment of employees that consist of no breaks of any kind, mandatory 16 hour work shifts, write ups and suspensions, supervisors, managers and therapists who live with the fear that the very educated and experienced youth worker want their job position. So far, so bad, many good youth workers left not only the center, but the residents who they tried to assist in making their lives better. This employer needs to be avoided at all costs, even if a person is desperate to find work.
Pros
Nothing but leaving at the end of your shift without any incidents.
Cons
Too many write ups and suspensions, ack of job recognitions, no job growth, no breaks of any kind, too many family members with management positions, staff are overworked and underpaid, poor communication between employees and management

Horrible place to work!!!
Youth Worker (Former Employee) –  Westland, MIMay 23, 2016
This is the last company on the planet that you would ever want to work for! Management condone the misbehavior of the Youth. Most of Management are blood related to one another. So if an employee speaks up about something wrong the Powers that Be will find out (even though they have an Open Door Policy).

If you are a Contingent/Part Time Worker they are now forcing you to work 16 hours shifts like you're Full Time. Management see you as a threat if you're educated. Workers are treated like dirty! Supervisors refuse to come to pods to releave you for a bathroom break.
Pros
You get free Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner after they Mandate you to work overtime for 16 hours!
Cons
Extreme favoritism towards relatives

This place sucks
Youth worker (Current Employee) –  Highland park, MichiganSeptember 25, 2015
Place is terrible to work at been there 3 years haven't got a raise. They are unorganized the management and supervisor abuse they power even the Director she is a total female dog if you know what I mean you never see her human resources don the help you if you have issues. The kids seem to know more than the employees know about when it comea to the stuff going on they are quick to suspend you. The management are clicked up and if you are not part of it they will come after you. If you take up for yourself they come after you my advice stay away from here. BAD BAD PLACE I'm only there until I find another job after that I'm gone
Pros
Helping out the youth
Cons
No breaks the pay is bad

Run away! You do not wan to work here
Clinician (Former Employee) –  Highland Park MichiganApril 9, 2015
You do not want to work for this company. The company is very disorganized has has been for some time. The culture is cliquish and unethical. Much of the management is under qualified and unprofessional. The staff are under appreciated and clinicians over worked. There are constant policy and rule changes which are not communicated until you are penalized.
The hardest part of the job should be working with the residents, instead it is dealing with coworkers, management and the agency overall. If you like unnecessary drama for poor wage, unlawful and unethical behavior, then this is the place for you.
Pros
Ummm...
Cons
Extremely high turnover for staff and clinicians.

Maxium security facility of juvenile delinquents
Youth Specialist (Current Employee) –  Highland Park, ILMarch 20, 2014
A typical day of work consist of entering on a pod while debriefing with the previous shift on the events of the day. Some of the things i have learned about delinquents is that most have previous offenses as well as being emotionally and physical abuse. Most of the management is controlled by family and have been in management position for some time. Most of the co workers are new to the field so they spend a great deal of time asking for advise which in most cases i am able to provide. The hardest part of the job is working with people that are not team oriented, team work is very important in this field. The most enjoyable part of this job is being able to help troubled youth reach their goals, regain self esteem, and being able to teach them everyday life skills to help them through everyday society upon their release from maximum security.

Horrible company
Juvenile Correctional Officer (Former Employee) –  Highland Park, MISeptember 9, 2013
Working for this company was an eye opening experience. Management will not support or back up their own employees. You have supervisors who abuse their power. We actually had the owner come talk to us when they were doing another pay cut. the first pay cut lasted a year and the second pay cut was coming. One of the employees asked when will we receive a pay raise and the owner said "It will be a cold day in hell before you get a pay raise!" Such a great company.
Pros
My coworkers were great to work with and the overtime was always available.
Cons
Benefits were horrible very high deductible, Did not receive a raise in 4 years, Management is clueless on how their supervisors abuse their power, No room for advancement at all.
