Supervisor (Current Employee), Charlotte, NC – April 18, 2013
Pros: great work atmosphere, great co-workers
I loved this job. Got along great with all co-workers. Fun atmosphere to work in. Wonderful management team. My favorite part of this job would have to be the interactions with customers. The hardest part of the job I would say was trying to get inventory put out by a certain time of day.
Store Manager (Former Employee), Louisville, KY – April 9, 2013
Pros: casual atmosphere
Cons: lack of inspired leadership
Typical retail workload. Poor district management. Co workers were generally fun. Hardest part of the job were the the changeover to Holloween and back to Christmas and dealin with shoplifters. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the job.
Sales Supervisor (Former Employee), Johnstown, PA – March 28, 2013
Pros: nice employee discount on items.
Cons: didn't feel salary was fair for the position.
Spencers was a great company to work for I loved most of my time there. My co-workers at Spencers were great I couldn't ask for better people to work with. Management wasn't so great after the store manager had left and a new store manager was appointed and an assistant manager was brought in. I loved working at Spencer Gifts until some changes had – more... occurred and felt it was time to move on. – less
I learned how to maintain a professional demeanor.
Guest Service Representative (Former Employee), Duluth, MN – March 25, 2013
This store was run with very strict guidelines established by the headquarters. The store itself was filled with novelty items and often the shoppers had immature attitudes so I had to engage with them while maintaining a professional demeanor. The co-workers were of a wide spectrum of personalities which made shifts enjoyable as I got a variety of – more... perspectives on life and work. The hardest part was working so hard for a job that was not the rewarding emotionally. The most enjoyable part was engaging with people of so many differing backgrounds. – less
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Springfield, VA – March 20, 2013

SALES ASSOCIATE (Former Employee), Virginia – January 18, 2013
Extremely unprofessional and rude. They will make you feel bad about yourself by talking about you just loud enough for you to hear it. They act like your friend to you face and betray that. The work is very easy but not to fulfilling. The customer are rude and there is constant threat of theft. You should just try to interact with them the best you – more... can. The job is easy but sometimes the people make you wonder if it is worth it. – less
SALES ASSOCIATE (Former Employee), Schaumburg, IL – January 11, 2013
Pros: the store discount
Cons: the atmosphere
I really enjoyed my employment at Spencers! It was so much fun and lots of creativity. A typical day is busy when we have sales and promoting a new retail item. Customer service is always #1 and is on the top of my list.
productive and an extremely fun workplace because of the people and items in store.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Waterloo, IA – January 8, 2013
Pros: good deals on merchandise, great employee discount! great people to work with! fun environment!
Cons: short breaks, constant shirt folding.
I love working here! It's always a blast working with my managers and other associates! The things we get in store sometimes shocks and/or amazes you! I've learned so much working here! One being I learned how to write out the information needed when we close the store at night. Management couldn't be ANY cooler. They are all so awesome and understanding – more... on a lot of things. They take the time to listen to you and give great advice! I love my management like a second family! My co-workers are very cool! They are all so hardworking and funny! I just love them all to death! The hardest part of my job would be inventories. There's always SO MUCH to count! Sometimes you lose count and sometimes the machines work against you instead of WITH! Really, just about everything about my job is enjoyable. I can't really depict anything I don't like about Spencers! – less
Sales Supervisor/Sales Associate (Current Employee), Roseville, MI – January 1, 2013
Pros: enviroment, coworkers
Cons: pay, benefits, hours
Spencers can be a fun place to work. But at times can get difficult. It is a retail store, so there is always the brunt of how a customer may treat you even if you are entirely nice to them. Also the company does not look at every store as an individual store. We are all expected to do the same with everything such as sales, floor set ups, and etc. – more... Even though we are located in different location where the foot traffic can very and we have different sized stores, and since the customers come first we can't always get tasks done if busy. – less
