Friendly and exciting work atmosphere, a lot of customer service skill comes in handy. The people i worked with were fun and helpful. The hardest part of the job was the random selection of hours. I really enjoyed my job.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Pensacola, FL – November 3, 2014
Pros: great benefits in management positions, fun place to work
Spencer's was the most interesting and unique place I have ever had the pleasure to work for. The multitude of novelty items, shirts, and jewelry that are sold is simply awesome. I learned management in a lower level and upper level position. Also how to execute tasks in a timely manner. The staff were fun, out-going individuals with great customer – more... service skills who must I had the pleasure of training and hiring. The hardest part of the job was having some customer who may not have understood policies when purchasing specific items but was easily able to overcome any situation with the customer leaving completely satisfied. I loved being able to help customers find exactly what they needed and all the new items the store would get in stock. The staff would always get a laugh at new items that arrived on shipment day. – less
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Moreno Valley, CA – September 4, 2014
Working at Spencer's is similar to the typical retail experience, aside from some sensitive merchandise. The company is excellent in its encouragement of training and job growth. The most difficult part is dealing with the unusual clientele some of the adult items can attract, and an advantage being in an environment that focuses largely on "party" – more... items and the humorous side of life. – less
Temporary Store Manager (Current Employee), Clay, NY – August 22, 2014
Life's a party and they're making it fun. That's the mission statement of Spencer Gifts and they mean it. It's a party atmosphere for the guest and a great place to cut your teeth with retail sales and retail management. They offer good benefits, competitive pay and a good amount of hours for their assistant and store managers. Co- workers are some – more... of the best in the business. – less
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Charlottesville, VA – August 3, 2014
Pros: we get prizes for winning our contests such as jewlery.
Cons: not very many hours.
On the average day at Spencer's I greet every guest that comes in our store with a smile and a "hello". Being there always brings you in a good mood. I've learned a lot about merchendizing and stocking. The manager is awesome and he is a really great teacher. All of the associates are very talkitive and always put a smile on my face. The hardest part – more... of the job I think is having to deal with difficult guests. I enjoy everything about this job and it is a really fun job to be at. I am in a program called the succession program and it is a program that if jobs for a key holder are available I am able to train for it and I could become a key holder eventually. – less
Machine Operator (Former Employee), Charlotte, NC – July 30, 2014
Pros: gatorade made at time
Cons: short breaks and climate in the building
Management wasn't always on the same page, employees that worked in the team wasn't always working as a team, climate in the company was beyond hot. During breaks you were hardly ever able to get out of your station to get your full break before having to go back. Time clocks were always messing up so time wasn't completely accurate.
Fun and productive workplace with quirky customers.
Shift Leader (Former Employee), Columbia, MD – May 27, 2014
Pros: fun, quirky customers, great music.
Cons: short breaks, low pay rate, poor management.
Spencers is a fun, loud, and colorful place. Management works hard to keep store going, please customers, and keep store clean, as do the sales associates. The pay rate is low and there are very few opportunities for advancement, but if you're looking for a job where you can work hard and have fun, Spencers is definitely the place to work! While working – more... here I learned how to work as a team, and also how to lead a team. That in itself was a very rewarding experience. The hardest part of the job would have to be trying to keep up with all the new products that come in. The most enjoyable part of the job would have to be seeing the satisfaction and smiles on returning customers faces. – less
