Clondalkin Group Holdings likes to be very flexible when it comes to pleasing customers. Through its Flexible Packaging segment, the company manufactures plastic, foil, paper, and paperboard products, including seals, laminates, and lids for the agriculture, food, beverage, healthcare, and consumer goods industries. Clondalkin serves many of the same industries, as well as other industrial markets, with its Specialist Packaging segment which makes folding cartons, labels, leaflets, paper bags, and plastic cards. The company has over 40 operations scattered throughout Europe and the US, the two primary regions where its customers are located. Clondalkin Group is owned by private equity firm Warburg Pincus.
The company has grown over its lifetime through acquisitions, having invested in excess of €175 million in just 18 months. Clondalkin plans to continue its expansion in European and North American markets, especially in the areas of pharmaceutical and health care packaging.
In 2009 the company acquired US-based Cleveland Plastic Films (banner, food, and industrial applications) as well as Harlands Labels (self-adhesive labels for cosmetics and consumer products). US-based Accutech, a packaging films manufacturer, was picked up in 2008. Acquisitions in 2007 included US-based Keller Crescent (cartons, labels, and inserts), as well as a number of companies located in Canada, Spain, and Ireland, which brought products including cartons, food packaging, and labels.
The company, which realizes revenues of approximately €900 million per year, is divided into two business divisions. Flexible Packaging represents around 70% of sales, while Specialist Packaging constitutes about 30%. Europe, which has over 30 operating companies, is the biggest consumer of Clondalkin's products, representing 70% of sales; North America, with over 10 operating companies, is responsible for 30% of sales.
