Patient Care Technician, Mobile, AL - June 25, 2014
The shift would begin with getting a report on the assigned patients. Typically, a Patient Care Technician will get six patients most nights. Than on the night shift the Tech will get 12 patients at 11PM. You would be lucky, if the other Tech and/or Nurse will be able or willing to help you. In the case with a total patient, ( a patient that is not mobile or able to take of their basic needs.) you will be helped by the nurse,if the Tech is not able too. I learn that a nurse's job seems to be never done. Getting vitals and processing the information and adjusting the patients treatment and medicine accordingly. I got to meet some interesting people. In some cases, it was at the end of their lives. The hardest part of the job was that was no team player atmosphere and each floor is different. I really enjoyed my job when every one comes together, works as a team and appreciate each other. When I left for the day or night, I knew that my patients were taken care of.
