Food Rescue Program

At the end of each day, Sprouts donates all unsold and edible but not marketable groceries to Feeding America and their local affiliate hunger relief agencies as part of our local Food Rescue Program.

Similarly, any produce that does not pass the daily quality check in our Distribution Centers, but is still fit for human consumption, gets set aside for charity. Relief agencies pick up excess or damaged fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those in need. Whether it's the fruit that is cut in half for quality checks, or a box of produce that has a few too many bumps and bruises, it's perfectly edible, just not sellable. Sprouts receives tax benefits for its donations, but the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from doing the right thing is far more valuable. In 2014, our stores and distribution centers donated more than 8.5 million pounds of product to those in need, reducing the impact of hunger and our environmental footprint.

Come Join Our Bunch!

Sprouts is a neighborhood grocery store with the feel of an old-fashioned farmers market. Regulars love us for staples like farm-fresh produce, natural meats and nuts, grains and sweets in bulk. Most of all, folks love our prices they're often surprisingly low, particularly for organic and specialty products that would command a premium elsewhere. We're constantly adding new stores and expanding our business so you never know when we may "sprout" in your neighborhood. But one thing is for sure: working at Sprouts is a lot of fun!

Sounds right up your alley? All you need is a passion for people and flair for food. We can show you the rest.

Sprouts History

Sprouts Farmers Market, Inc. was founded by members of the Boney family, long-time San Diego grocers with a focus on making fresh foods affordable. The company opened its first store in Chandler, Ariz. in 2002 with abundant produce and thousands of natural, organic and great-tasting foods at remarkably low prices.

The Sprouts story continued with a period of rapid growth through acquisitions and new store development. In 2011, Sprouts joined with Henry's Holdings, which ran 35 Henry's Farmers Markets stores and eight Sun Harvest Market stores. A year later, the company bought Sunflower Farmers Market, which ran 37 stores.

Sprouts became a public company traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market in August, 2013. In 2014, Sprouts expanded into the Southeast by adding new stores in Georgia. This year, Sprouts is opening 27 stores, including three new states: Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee. Today Sprouts is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country. Sprouts employs more than 20,000 team members and operates more than 200 stores in 13 states from coast to coast.

Responsible Retailing

Central to our identity is a genuine commitment to responsible retailing. We care deeply about the health and well being of our customers, team members, communities and our world.
Responsible retailing for Sprouts is comprised of four main focus areas: partnering with suppliers and vendors to ensure that the products we sell are responsibly sourced; reducing waste and our environmental footprint; constructing and operating our farmers markets in a way that reduces energy use; and caring for and contributing to the communities that we serve.
With the support of our team members and suppliers, we put responsible retailing into practice every day. We set clear, measurable targets for these priority areas, and plan to report on our progress in the near future.
