About St Bernard Project:
Disaster Resilience & Recovery Lab (DRRL) exists to ensure that disaster-impacted communities recover in a prompt, efficient and predictable manner. Through DRRL, St Bernard Project works to share lessons learned, prevent common barriers to recovery and help communities utilize SBP’s proven-effective model. Before disaster, the DRRL team will help small- to mid-sized business owners in vulnerable communities understand and mitigate their risk. Following disaster, the team will work to ensure that impacted communities utilize SBP’s standardized, replicable model for post-disaster recovery.
St Bernard Project is an award winning nonprofit pioneering a new model for disaster recovery nationwide. Since its founding in 2006, in response to Hurricane Katrina, SBP has rebuilt homes for nearly 800 families with the help of 70,000+ volunteers in New Orleans; Joplin; Staten Island, NY; Rockaway, NY; and Monmouth County, NJ.
Full time, salaried with 30% travel time a possibility
Leadership & Management
Ensure programmatic excellence, high quality service delivery and administration, and effective strategic planning
Hire, lead, develop, support and retain a team of high performing DRRL staff
Develop and implement effective systems to track progress as DRRL ramps up and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes and identify weaknesses that can be communicated to the CEO, funders and other constituents
Outreach & Relationship Building
Inform and drive national outreach strategy to at-risk and disaster-impacted communities
Build partnerships in new communities by establishing relationships with funders, partner organizations and community leaders
Represent DRRL and communicate an engaging vision that inspires current partners to deepen their involvement and activates new partnerships
Strategic Planning & Oversight
Remain abreast of new ideas, upcoming events and trainings, and relevant activities related to disaster mitigation, response and management
Develop, implement and ensure the effectiveness of a strategic plan to ramp up and expand DRRL
Create Key Performance Indicators for the success of DRRL and ensure that these are met and exceeded
Manage DRRL budget and identify new funding streams to support program operations
Management & Organizational Responsibilities
Complete all activities with a sense of pride and ownership
Provide direct supervision to DRRL team
Demonstrate leadership and accountability in interactions with team members
Participate in company-wide events, such as meetings and socials
Display strong commitment to SBP’s mission, values and ethos of innovation
5 - 7 years experience in disaster management or a related field
Deep familiarity with the role of government/nonprofits in disaster preparedness/recovery
Strong verbal communication is key. Ability to make compelling presentations to wide range of audiences
Must develop solid working relationships with SBP’s key corporate partners and sponsors
Ability to work in a startup environment and run projects independently – solution oriented & resourceful.
