St. Paul Surgeons has been providing comprehensive surgical care for the morbidly obese for over 30 years. Dr. John Alden, one of St. Paul Surgeons' founding partners, was a pioneer in the field of bariatric surgery. Through the years, Dr. James LaFave and Dr. Philemon Roy also provided bariatric surgery for many people. In a time when popular opinion was that morbid obesity was an issue of self-control, our surgeons recognized that it was a medical issue with devastating consequences to health, and that surgery was the only reliable tool for long term successful weight loss.
