About St. Alexius Medical Center

St. Alexius Medical Center's mission to serve those most in need has resulted in a $2.8 million investment in dialysis services in Western North Dakota. Rather than soliciting community or patient support for a service used by many patients least able to afford it, St. Alexius has chosen to invest in a rebuilt and expanded Regional Kidney Dialysis Center – more... in Bismarck and to upgrade and remodel centers in Dickinson and Williston.

An Open House for the rebuilt Regional Kidney Dialysis Center in Bismarck will be held July 14 to showcase a center which has expanded from 11 stations to a state-of-the art 16-station center including personalized entertainment systems at each unit, individual temperature and lighting controls and a top-of-the-line water purification system.

In 2001, St. Alexius invested $72,000 to remodeled its Dickinson Dialysis Center, housed within St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center. In 2005, another $11,000 was invested to upgrade the water purification system.

In 2004, St. Alexius invested over $400,000 to remodel the Williston Dialysis Center, housed within Mercy Medical Center (MMC).

According to Kim Miller, Administrator, Mercy Medical Center, "A collaborative agreement to provide dialysis services has been in existence between MMC and St. Alexius for over 17 years. The renal services have grown from serving the needs of 1 patient in 1988 to the current number of 20 patients in 2005 within a 100 mile radius of Williston. We are extremely pleased with our collaborative arrangement with St. Alexius for renal services. Dr. Cory Miller, Internal Medicine Physician and member of Craven Hagan Clinic serves as our local specialist for the dialysis unit and works closely with nephrologists (kidney specialists) from St. Alexius. This is a perfect example of how two facilities and their medical staffs have collaborated to offer a high quality service close to the homes and needs of the patients we collectively serve.

When a patient is on dialysis the comfort of their own home and their family is extremely important to improving their overall health status. The model we have established assures that both of these factors are met for our patients. St. Alexius has been a great partner and we look forward to a long standing relationship to ensure the needs of the patients in the Williston area continue to be met for specialty services such as dialysis."
