salary nurses work too many hours
nursing (Former Employee), Grand Blanc – January 16, 2013
Pros: good benefits
Cons: overworked and understaffed
I have only worked for the Home care company. My advice is stay away! They have merged to form a new company without hiring enough employees. All nurses are salary and expected to work at least 50 hrs per week.

Very difficult place to work
Security Officer II (Armed) (Former Employee), Warren, MI – January 8, 2013
Pros: fairly decent pay, good co-workers
Cons: terrible managers who violates their own written policies, then punish anyone who questions these practices.
Worked as contingent and part-time security officer for six years at a St. John Hospital. When a new Regional Manager was appointed, my supervisor asked for input regarding possible improvements or changes. I submitted seven typed pages that I believed to be helpful and beneficial suggestions. Apparently this was taken personally by management who then – more... "made up" a reason to discipline me and then announced a layoff of anyone who was part-time and who had a disciplinary incident on their record. It so happens that I was the only one fitting this criteria and I was permanently laid off. This occurred a couple weeks before the disciplinary incident was to be expunged from my file. It was a way for management to dodge perceived criticism and not have to deal with many questionable security practices I brought up such as the unlawful handling of patients, some who were manhandled unneccesarily and these were all covered up by supervisors and managers. When I reported such incidents to the security manager, no action was taken. I guarantee you don't want to work for these guys who are not on your side but micro-manage everything you do. – less

Unlawful handling of a patient? Care to elaborate on that? I think what you're saying is one instance a security guard got excessive in force, maybe restraining some nut job on a pysch floor or a similar circumstance. Honestly who cares a job is a job if that bothers you go work somewhere else.

Contingent
Part Time Contingent Dispatch Operator (Former Employee), Warren, MI – September 13, 2012
Pros: prayers being said in a catholic hospital and spiritual care
Cons: uninterested in helping employees with future job security with health insurance
St John Health Systems was only able to offer contingent work with very little hours. I did try to obtain full time employment without much help from Human Resources as well as Management.

Forget working for St John Home care- worst place to work ever!
RN Home Care (Former Employee), Ann Arbor, MI – July 16, 2012
Pros: great benefits, nice co-workers (mostly), paid holidays.
Cons: micromanaging and patronizing management, excessive driving with associated wear and tear on your car, and gas expenses.
I can speak for their home care company only. They are under new management and many of their experienced staff have left. They currently have only six full-time RNs on staff, down from 30+. They cover Wayne, Washtenaw, Monroe, and Livingston county and most nurses drive to all areas. Spent almost two to four hours per day driving! Computers are ancient – more... and break down constantly so that you must drive into the office for repairs so that you can complete your documentation. The entire company is under the management of their new educator who is a micromanaging nightmare! During orientation seldom knew where we would be or what we would be doing the following day. Once she called the newly orientating staff after 10pm to tell them to show up at an alternate office more than an hour away. Half the new hires did not show up at the correct office as they had not received the message. Her attitude towards others was patronizing as she does not feel that (per her words) current staff are competent and if she had her way almost everyone currently working there would be gone. After eight weeks of orientation two out of three RNs had already left. And the current staff are so afraid for their jobs that they are all going to great lengths to cover themselves. If you are looking for a job keep looking! Or try the hospital as I have only heard good things about working in-house. – less
