In the last 10 years, the number of births at St. Joseph's has nearly doubled, increasing from 3,832 in 1993 to 6,000 in 2003. "This increase has put a strain on the bed capacity of our birthing center, which has not been expanded to meet the demand," says Darlene Vlahovic, R.N., Director of Women and Newborn Services for the Maternal/Fetal – more... Services.
St. Joseph's goal is to provide expectant mothers and their families with a "family centered" approach to the childbirth experience. The hospital offers the highest level of care for pregnant women and newborns. It offers both low-risk and high-risk delivery options, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with advanced life-saving technology.
"There's no question that we provide first-class care to our patients, but our facility is lacking," says Vlahovic. "The labor, delivery and recovery rooms do not have the home-like appeal of newer birthing centers found in other area hospitals."
Plans to renovate the birthing areas of St. Joseph's are included in the Pushing Boundaries capital development program. To learn about the future vision of Maternal/Fetal Services, visit www.pushingboundaries.org. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
