Three eight hour shifts are available. I have worked them all. Each shift has it's own characteristics. Routine daily work for the hospital is primarily performed on first shift. Second and third shift do some hospital related duties, however second shifts main responsibility relates to the ordering and processing of outreach clinic samples. Third shift performs the majority of the daily analyzer maintenance and QC. Most MLS have been cross trained at this facility to work in every department. There is only limited microbiology available. The majority of microbiology is sent to our sister facility in Green Bay. The people are great. The hardest part of the job comes on the third shift in my opinion. There is only one third shift person, so at times you may be needed in multiple departments such as ER, ICU and or Genesis, while also trying to report out patient work and addressing the daily maintenance and QC that is required.
