Under minimal supervision is responsible for coordinating, directing, and planning activities of the Cardio-Vascular Lab. Ensures the operations of the Cardiovascular lab, provides high quality care and maintains compliance with State Department of Health Services, JCAHO Standards, and patient safety guidelines.
Consults with and makes recommendations to the Hospital Administration regarding Policies, Procedures, and Quality Assurance.
Develops ad updates policies, procedures and job descriptions for the Cardio-Vascular Lab.
Interviews, selects, and hires with consultation with Administration.
Is responsible for evaluation, orientation, and training of new employees of the Cath Lab
Supervises, instructs, and schedules the duties of the technical and nursing staff
Coordinates all duties of the Cardiovascular Lab
Assures high patient care standards, utilizing all available resources
Takes leadership role and assists in any Emergency/Arrest situation occurring in the Cath Lab
Recognizes that there is a high amount of radiation exposure during
Cardiac Cath procedures and ensures appropriate safety and monitoring precautions.
Prepares monthly statistics that reflect the activities and volumes of procedures performed in the Lab
Prepares the annual budget for Cardio-Vascular Lab
Participates in the public relations/marketing of Cardiology Service in
the hospital and community as requested
Responsible for the accuracy of patient charges Initiates charges for the service, and reports variances in the Cardiovascular Lab. Also, responsible for monitoring and updating CPT codes and fee schedules
Assists with patient preparation, patient management and the continuity of care
Coordinates the scheduling of cases in the Cath Lab
Develops and maintains appropriate par levels of supplies used in the Cath Lab
Responsible to insure the physical and psychological needs of patients and develops and implements plans to meet those needs
Demonstrates competence in the care of pediatric or frail elderly groups of patients (when/if assigned to these patients) relative to determining each patient’s age-related and other physical, psychosocial and cultural needs and carrying out patient care activities
Keeps current CQI reports and sends them to the Quality Assurance Department, as required
Assists with the duties in the Cath Lab as required
Meets with the appropriate Vice President of Patient Services, as required
Performs other job related duties as assigned by Administration
Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills
Registered Nurse license
Current BCLS and ACLS required
Proof of License(s)/Certification(s) required at time of hire.
Graduate of a nursing school
10 years supervisory experience in Cath Lab
5 years Cardiac Interventional experience
Proof of educational levels required at time of hire.
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organization, leadership, and problem solving skis
Effective time management
Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and institute emergency treatment
Considerable stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reach above the shoulders, twist/turn, push/pull
May occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds
May occasionally perform CPR, push beds, stretchers, carts, life packs, and help position/transfer patients
Visual ability: Near acuity; 8” to 16” to 3’, Fat visual acuity; 20’ and greater
Must utilize conversational speech for effective verbal communication
Noise level is high in some patient care areas
