Standard Furniture, despite its name, wants to point out that its furniture is anything but standard. It makes and markets furniture under the Standard Furniture and Frisco Manufacturing names. It produces a variety of pieces, including those for the bedroom, dining room, living room, and kitchen. Its Frisco Manufacturing specializes in making bedroom sets. Standard Furniture operates a pair of manufacturing facilities in Alabama and imports products from factories overseas, as well. Family-owned and -operated since 1946, the company distributes its product lines to more than 3,000 retailers nationwide. Standard Furniture and Kathy Ireland Worldwide ended their longtime licensing agreement in early 2009.
In February 2009 Standard Furniture announced that the two had ended their business partnership after about eight years. Standard Furniture produced home and office furniture, rugs, carpets, lighting, bedding, and window treatments as part of the agreement. Standard Furniture is planning to wait a year before it enters another licensing agreement so that it can focus on improving its efficiency and reducing its overhead.
Standard Furniture operates distribution centers in Alabama and California. Some 10% of its workforce is positioned overseas at manufacturing sites to help maintain quality and ensure its relationships are secure. – less
