Customer Service Representative (Current Employee), Toccoa, GAMay 6, 2014
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: little breaks, not trained well, not respected
Standard Register has gone through many changes in the years that I've been employed there. You aren't properly trained to do your well, much less to the best of your abilities, and to assure the best customer service. Tough workloads are expected of you, with little to no positive encouragment, or actions to boost team morale. Many promises that aren't – more... met, hard to move up in the company, and favoritism is ever present. You don't feel heard, appreciated, or seen as a person. I love my coworkers, we are all in the same situation. – less

1st Machine Operator (Former Employee), 81 Uraco Way, Avon MA. 02322April 2, 2014
Pros: some good and knowledgable employees that have been around the business for a long time.
Cons: small work place with high quatity demands with not much room for advance/training/older equipment
I worked a split shift. I started at the tail end of the shipping day. My job was to help get out all remaining jobs for that days shipment, then i would prepare the orders for the next day. The job I preformed was demanding, so I hadn't had much time to learn every new piece of equipment. My co-workers there were good. The enjoyable part of my job – more... was learning and preforming the difficult functions of the machine. Any difficulties in my job was that the machines were older and needed some attending. – less

In transformation
Individual Contributor (Former Employee), Dayton, OHMarch 24, 2014
Pros: does promote from within
Cons: continual shifting of priorities and ongoing restructuring
Standard Register is trying to break out of being a bulky, legacy organization but that transformation is taking considerable time and is chewing through valuable resources without qualm in the meantime. There are many great resources in this company but the company itself does not place significant value on its employee assets.

Customer Service Manager (Former Employee), Toccoa, GAJanuary 10, 2014
Pros: travel
Cons: having the corporate office in another location
My most enjoyable role was providing the customer with training sessions and working one on one with the department heads. We had a great team of associates in our office and I gained life long friends. The hardest part of the job was the inability to make all promises made happen. It was unfortunate that the company had to make reductions in the work – more... force and that I was one of the reductions. However, it is still a good company to work for. – less

Slimiest, Unethical Company Around
Pawn (Former Employee), Sacramento, CAJanuary 8, 2014
Pros: it wont last forever
Cons: too many to list here
Pay is adequate, local managers vary from Great to Hitler....

Corporate culture sucks, constant threat of being laid off, pocketing of your merit increase, bonus potential and 401k matching dollars while upper management continually rewards themselves with it.

Bi-annual layoffs every June and November to keep wages low. Replacements hired 1-2 months – more... later. Regardless of how hard you work.

Get hurt on the production floor and they fire you for not following safety procedures......Seriously I seen it done to folks out there. – less

I feel they made a bad decision combining the warehouse with the print shop. Because the print shop was growing the warehouse declined. And that was the reason they closed shop

Sourcing Specialist (Former Employee), Toccoa, GADecember 14, 2013
Pros: meeting the vendors and building a relationship with them.
Cons: the stress of trying to accomodate everyone.
I have to say I loved my job. I worked with vendors and sales reps, trying to get the lowest prices for jobs and sending orders to the vendors. Worked on followup, and finished with invoicing. I was starting to learn the promotional part of the job with more detail than I already knew. I had a great bunch of people on my team. My day was busy from the – more... time I sat down to the time I left for the day. The biggest challenge was trying to get an item printed on a rush order. We weren't mircro-managed, but, sometimes it was hard to get a hold of our manager, as she was in another building another state. – less
