Time flies when your busy...
Copy Center Specialist (Current Employee), California – May 17, 2013
Pros: co-workers
Cons: not having enough hours for employees
I work at a high volume store, it is always busy and don't have any additional help. Can be really stressful, you need to be able to multi-task.

Pros: the people, the job

A very competitive work area
Easy Tech Associate (Current Employee), Winston-Salem, NC – May 14, 2013
Pros: working with a nice staff
Cons: 30 minute lunches
Staples is a nice place to work. A typical day at work is about average and everybody tries to do their fair share of work. I have learned a little about how to diagnose computers. I have got plenty of customer service experience. My co-workers are good and cooperative, we have a pretty good team. The hardest part of the job would be maintaining the – more... stores presents and keeping it looking nice because the computer work is what I enjoy and the team is awesome to work with. The most enjoyable part of the job is the team. – less

Average part-time job with a great working environment.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Athens, OH – May 14, 2013
Pros: networking with students and the community
Cons: not in my field of study as a chemical engineer
A typical day consisted of catering to customers electronic and office supply needs. I helped restock inventory, check people out as a cashier, and ship packages via UPS. I learned about time management, teamwork, and working with customers. The work environment and co-workers was very positive and I have networked with a lot of people from OU and through – more... Athens and Dayton, OH. The hardest part of the job was meeting sales goals on slow days; however, I worked with other sales associates to help meet these goals together. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting/networking with customers. – less

Staples Experience
Customer Service/Copy & Print Associate (Current Employee), Milford, Shelton & Wilton CT – May 14, 2013
Pros: good for high school students part time...
Cons: not good for someone trying to settle down
Working for Staples for over 4 years, and in different periods... Staples as a company has changed a lot, especially with the economy. They do not hire full time much any more, or offer full time employment to many. It's been a roller coaster ride with the company. I have witness MANAGEMENT losing their positions due to reconstruction of the company, – more... so job security isn't high. – less

very demanding/without enough manpower to back up.
customer service lead (Former Employee), new york city,n.y – May 13, 2013
Pros: benefits.
Cons: work load and lack of corporate direction and respect.
Company does not practice what it preaches.Wants you to service
customer, but gives you heavy work load of tasks(which is a bad word in the company) .District and Regional Managers think they are on a sports team they always refer to veryone as being on their team or not on the team and hitting home runs? District managers constantly have conference – more... calls with store management where managers are threatened and cursed at and belittled.Morale in stores is very low, everyone just works to get a pay chech and go home. The corp;office is always sending memos to stores with new promotions and plan-o-grams,without regard to all the other info;that has been sent down from other offices at corp.Talk about work loads.
The big excitement that the company likes is cashiers selling pens at the registers.Oh,and try calling Corp;about being cursed at by management, and it falls on deaf ears.Look else where my friends if you want a job in retailing. – less

Small opportunity for advancement and very few hours
Office Supplies Associate (Current Employee), Chico, CA – May 9, 2013
Pros: free food in the break room every now and then.
Cons: few hours and small opportunity for advancement in the company.
The day consists of scanning the store with an RF Gun to see which products are out of stock and which products need restocking. Take inventory of the high end electronics. Perform cashiering duties and direct customers to products. The coworkers get along well but the management hinders our progress for growth because they expect us to perform tasks – more... without properly showing us how to perform them. Have to deal with difficult customers everyday. – less

High pressure selling environment
Employee (Former Employee), PA – May 9, 2013
Staples has changed a lot over the past 2 years. They have put their money into a lot of ideas that have not turned out as they hoped. As a result they are now only really concerned in pushing services and warranties with high margin. Even as a cashier, making minimum wage, you are expected to sell and promote so many items right at the register. Most – more... people are just ready to make their purchase and leave but are subjected to a laundry list of questions and badgering. Along with trying to get the customer to sign up for a rewards card, if they are buying an electronic or furniture you must then ask them to purchase an extended warranty. Then, you must ask if they want to buy one of the pen of the month. Then, you are to ask if they have a computer and if it is running slow because Staples offers tech services. It comes to the point where it is embarrassing. The pay is not good. The only way to earn a descent living with the company is if you make your way into management. Getting into management at this point in time is nearly impossible because they have just laid off half of their store management in an attempt to save money. Staples does provide good benefits. Unless you want to be a salesman however, it is probably not the job for you. – less

It was a simple job.
Solutions Advisor (Former Employee), Redmond, WA – May 8, 2013
I was hired on seasonally and continued on for a bit longer. It's a simple job, takes little to no specialized skills, and the pay is low. They don't try to sugar coat it however. It is what it is. In my experience the people there, management included, were great.
