Toxic Environment
Lab Instructor (Former Employee), Bradenton, FLMarch 17, 2014
Pros: lots of great students
Cons: egomaniacal academics that couldn't survive in the private community.
A very sullen environment run by myopic individuals with less that human characteristics. A sad and negative place. Education is dead. And this workplace only reinforces my belief that politics in the workplace tend to breed tiny monsters. I wish them the best...but I would never return. Not even to use their library...

Assistant Telephone Operator (Former Employee), Bradenton, FLOctober 2, 2013
Small office environment, answered telephone calls, worked with very professional ladies and gentlemen. Management was great anything I needed they were there. The only setback to the job is they offered very limited hours. Nothing stressful about this position. Best part is the odd phone calls.

Student Assistant for Front Desk (Former Employee), Venice, FLJuly 22, 2013
Pros: great experience.
Cons: minimum wage and limited hours.
Being a student assistant at State College of Florida was a very rewarding experience. The staff is always very friendly and loves the help that you give them. I learned about the steps each department has to go through to accept a student to the school, to change records, and to instruct students about which form they would need to fill out to succeed.

Excellent opportunity for students to gain experience
IT Student Assistant (Current Employee), Bradenton, FLApril 14, 2013
At SCF I was able to gain much needed experience in the IT field. The culture at SCF was one that nurtured education. I enjoyed working in an office environment with friendly, educated individuals.

Old School vs. New School just doesn't compute
Staff (Former Employee), Bradenton, FLDecember 20, 2012
Pros: great benefits
Cons: management there is heinous.
The issues going on at State College of Florida lend to a hostile environment and an unstable future. The old school way of thinking clashes hard with the new school of thought. If you are looking for a place to grow, go elsewhere. The only positive is that your co-workers are in the same boat and are great to work with. Too bad management can't get – more... their act together. – less

Office Assistant (Former Employee), Venice, FLNovember 10, 2012
Pros: everything. the people, the students, the duties.
Cons: there were no cons about the job except for having to leave once i graduated.
My co-workers were current and former students as the college likes to hire qualified students who were educated there. It was a friendly, stressful, learning environment. Everyone got along great and worked well together. At times, it could be stressful in that towards the end of a semester students tend to be very stressed with final exams and grades. – more... Our team's responsibility to the students was to ensure them that we are here to help and assist them with the severe stress that comes with having a heavy work load and school schedule. Excellent social skills were essential to me in performing this job. Students can get very emotional about academic pressures and having the social skills to calm them was very important. The hardest part of the job was having to leave after I graduated. Once a student graduates they can no longer work at the college under the status of a student assistant. Since there were no permanent positions available I had to say goodbye to everyone. That was hard because I was very happy there. – less

Community College EAP Program - Very enjoyable place to work.
English Language Instructor (Former Employee), Venice, FloridaMay 27, 2011
Pros: professionalism, staff development, learning opportunities, student centered, technology, supportive environment, creativity, collaboration, managment, beautiful campus
Cons: low salary, no benefits, privatized social security arrangement, location: car dependent very expensive, long commute, part-time temporary, contract based employment
I really enjoyed my time teaching at this lovely community college in Venice Florida.
Pros:
Top-notch people in the Language and Literature EAP department. Professional, supportive. Strong focus on student centered teaching. Strong focus on creativity, integrity, collaboration, and program development. Many opportunities for learning and skill development. – more... Focus on student needs. Modern teaching technology.
Cons: Low salary, no benefits, no job security, social security deducted, but not put in SS fund. Your money goes to a private agency for speculation, instead.
Bottom Line: This is a great place to both work and develop your teaching skills, if you have a substantial savings account, and don't need full-time employment, or to save for retirement. – less
