slow moving
Financial Services Representative (Current Employee) –  Nags Head, NCSeptember 19, 2017
very slow except on Fridays when it is a mad house and everyone panics. managers micromanage supervisors so the supervisors are always on your back which translates to rushed work and more mistakes than there should be.

Productive and an okay work environment
Trust Administration Officer I (Current Employee) –  Raleigh, NCSeptember 13, 2017
SECU is a great opportunity to assist members while learning and gaining a wealth of financial experience. Employees will be educated on how to balance check books, how to qualify for a loan, get a better understanding of credit and insurance and how to help members with an Estate Plan.
Pros
Benefits, positive environment, great information
Cons
Because SECU is a nonprofit organization there salary is not that best.

Low Pay, Ridiculous Requirements for Advancement
Financial Services Representative I (Former Employee) –  Apex, NCSeptember 9, 2017
You must pass 15 modules just to certified as a full time employee and must make 90 or better on all of those. You receive a measly $3.00 when passing each one added to your salary. Never made $30,000 a year working at SECU. Job culture is rather cultish when it comes to satisfying a "member of the credit union." You're expected to satisfy them no matter what, even if it means breaking the policies and procedures that SECU wrote for itself.
Pros
1 hour lunch, decent 401k
Cons
Job Culture, Extremely Low Pay

Financial Service Representative II (Former Employee) –  Hope Mills, NCAugust 26, 2017
Enjoyed being a teller at the Credit Union only left because we moved out of the area.
There were some employees that did not put in the most effort leaving more work for others to do but overall was a great place to work.

Financial Services Representative (Former Employee) –  Raleigh, NCAugust 23, 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at State Employees Credit Union. Great culture and room to advance. You are required to learn aspects of the company outside of a particular role, which I found important and useful.

Excellent place to work
Member Services Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCAugust 19, 2017
When I worked at SECU it was both a productive and pleasant environment to work in. Sometimes you can get a manager who is not very people oriented or so it seems. Overall, it is a great place to work.
Pros
Good pay, lots of friendly people
Cons
A manager sets the tone of the branch and sometimes they don't seem as happy.

just fine, same as any other 8-5 company. glad when retirement comes-like everyone else. the environment is fine if you keep low and don't argue. come to work on-time and leave like there's a fire in the building at 5:30. members can treat employees in any manner they wish.
Pros
401k matching

Productive place to work with no caps for growth or income
Full time job 4days (Current Employee) –  NCAugust 8, 2017
The First day of training they let us know that you yourself determine how high and how fast up you move within the company. At that point I knew this company was the company for me. Its strategically laid out were our focus remain on our members but at the same time the pay and position matches the efforts you put back into this institution. there is no commission but many ways to receive a pay increase with continued educations (passing models and getting certifications ) and yearly reviews. I will accomplish my overall career goal (becoming a certified financial advisor all while fulfilling my personal purpose of helping people
Pros
you determine on growth with company as well as many differnet ways for pay increase
Cons
10 hour work days

Financial Services Representative I (Current Employee) –  Wake Forest, NCAugust 1, 2017
NCSECU is a great place to start a career. I learned a great deal about risk management even at the teller level. If you can get around a good core group, you can succeed in unimaginable ways. One thing I can say, is that you should make your intended pathway known on the date of hire or the ability for advancement will be slowed. Communication is key, and if you don't have that particular skill, the Credit Union is a great place to build it. Culture varies from branch to branch and the support centers, but usually centers around enforcing the motto of "People Helping People" to the benefit of all members.
Pros
benefits, ability to advance
Cons
conflicting personalities between employees and members.

Good Company with good benefits
Senior Financial Services Officer (Current Employee) –  Lillington, NCJuly 31, 2017
SECU is a good place to start your career path but overall they need better pay and benefits for their employees. The pay for all licenses that you work hard for is not competitive with other companies. They don't require you to get these licenses, however, you cannot get promoted unless you have them so that is not really fair to the employees either. Overall, SECU is a good place to work with set hours and holidays and weekends off but can be very stressful and not family oriented sometimes.

Great first job
Lending Officer (Current Employee) –  Raleigh, NCJuly 27, 2017
This is a great company to work for. The work schedule and 401K is the best around. However, it is easy to get burned out as the daily tasks are very repetitive. Also if you don't have a passion for finance, it is extremely boring. The company's motto is "people helping people" which really is what they strive to do, which is nice. You do not have that big bank feel or the pressure to make sales.
Pros
Work/Life balance, 401K, Job Security
Cons
Repetitive, Sedentary

Dissatisfied
Financial Services Representative (Former Employee) –  Boone, NCJuly 7, 2017
You are paid salary from 8:30-5:30, but you typically work more than that and are not compensated for it. Teller supervisor is very unprofessional, lazy, and makes threatening comments, and manager of branch will not address issues ever. You are supposed to get 2 - 15 minutes breaks and 1 hour for lunch. You only receive the hour for lunch.
Pros
Location and benefits.
Cons
Teller supervisor

Financial Service Representative / Officer (Former Employee) –  Kinston, NCJune 21, 2017
The manager in Kinston is unfair and gives out employee information to other employees. You only move up if you're a great test taker and a person who is in the know. Personal information regarding HR has been released to regular employees as well.
