Working for the Department of Corrections as a non-correctional employee initially was very rewarding and challenging. After time, however, the quasi-military style management became a burden and left non-correctional staff alienated. Compensation is competitive, although no bonuses or raises unless promoted. Promotional opportunities do exist and you can promote to different state agencies and keep your tenure. It was refreshing to have a M-F 8 to 5 job for a change.
