Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHSeptember 20, 2017
Working retail hours is not good for most people. You are closing and most of the weekends are spent at work. Selling is never enough for the company. Very stressful work environment.

Tasking Sales
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  Toledo, OHSeptember 13, 2017
Managing day to day operations, repairs, inventory, scheduling were small tasks. Selling was enjoyable. Working with guests to find their perfect piece was exciting and worth the smile on their face. Taking care of and training team members is very important to me. If you take care of them, they will take care of the guest. The guest always needs to feel important and happy, the rest will find its place.
Pros
Paid vacation

Inconsistency in management

Great place to work with plenty of perks
Accounts Payable Invoice Processor (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHSeptember 1, 2017
Sterling is a great place to work. Although the work can be stressful, it can be balanced with plenty of activities both personal and for the community.
Why the position can sometimes be stressful, the training is excellent. Additionally supervisors do not mind assisting with any issues you may come across.
Because Sterling is such a large company there are plenty of opportunities to move to different positions as long as you're qualified.
Pros
Gym, walking paths, plenty of company and community events, merchandise discounts
Cons
Short staffed, pay does not always reflect experience

General Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Washington StateAugust 28, 2017
The company is great. They provide constant training opportunities, and are always looking to improve. The big downfall is the work/life balance. If you are in any management position, be prepared to have 50+ hour work weeks.

Inventory Control Specialist (Former Employee) –  Orange Park, FLAugust 24, 2017
The company and management strives to help you become a better employee. Not only to they provide tests, classes, and books on training, they also had hands on training as well. You can move up quickly in the company if you enjoy what you are doing. If you work full time, you have the option of benefits and they also help pay for college in some instances. It is a great environment.
Pros
fun

The worst Place to work
Day Collector (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHAugust 10, 2017
The job was ghetto and all over the place. If you can't find someone to hire you then you can go here and get a job. I didn't like that you couldn't put in a two week notice.

Big changes over the last few years made an undesirable work environment. Everyone looking to cover themselves from being the next to "retire"
Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHAugust 8, 2017
Too many changes too quickly and a lot of great people out of work over the last 2 years. It is no longer a people company who happens to sell jewelry....it's not about the people at all other than terminating or forcing retirement.

discount

Retail Associate (Current Employee) –  Findlay, OHJuly 30, 2017
As with any sales, the jewelry business is competitive. However, it keeps you on your toes and it makes for a good atmosphere. There's also an amazing sense of satisfaction after helping someone find their perfect piece of jewelry.
Pros
Discounts on jewelry

People are willing to help and talk with all team members. If you want to be promoted, you just need to let upper management know. There are places to move throughout the company if any department is not a fit for the team member.

Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Battle Creek, MIJuly 18, 2017
It was great to learn so much about diamonds and jewelry. I knew nothing about it going into the business other than the fact that it was pretty. All the sales there were for happy reasons. That was a fabulous perk to the job.
There really were not a lot of down sides to this position. It was interesting, I loved working with people and finding creative ways to obtain the stores sales goals.
Pros
Winning beautiful vacations!
Cons
Managing the president club writers.

Sterling more focused on business than the development of staff and makes promises to candidates and then does not see them through. Base pay not great.

very busy and fast paced place to work. Leads do not usually don't know what is going on between each other.a typical day there would be picking merchandise to send to stores and then bill it and then it goes to shipping to be sent to the stores.

I worked in the collections department so it was taxing at times. Opportunity for advancement is there. I personally had a bad experience but that doesn't mean others have.

Special Accounts Analyst (Current Employee) –  Akron, OHJune 22, 2017
A typical day at work is a busy but productive day. Management in my area turned over frequently, which made the daily tasks seem even harder when the management did not know how to perform them. Hardest part of the job was the constant change. I enjoyed working with all my team!

Don't work here unless you are desperate
Jeweler (Former Employee) –  Des Moines, IAJune 13, 2017
Not a good place to work. A lot of pressure to produce "perfect" work in a minimum of time. Add the demands to drop everything and do this instead add a lot of pressure. Way too much paperwork, much of it a duplicate of what has already been done. The benefits package sounds good untill you read the details, (such as a health care plan which does not pay anything untill a $5000 deductable has been met). Management seems to be constantly trying to put out fires rather than solving the problem.
Pros
Few
Cons
A lot

Security Sergeant (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHJune 10, 2017
I learned a lot from these people, they were all very helpfull and put up with my inadequacies and did a great deal to make me feel comfortable at work. The jewelry business is a very challenging field and has tributaries into many other industries and it is a very rewarding field to be in.
Pros
You learn a lot about the industry
Cons
None
