Otr driver (Current Employee), New York – May 18, 2013
Pros: see the united states they will train the hell out of u
Cons: pay sucks equipment sucks
I'm sure their are better schools than this ill break it down training sucks. They do put in a motel for a couple of days but u have to pay it back. the trainers if u get a good one u will know if u have a good trainer.once u get your own truck it will break down the equipment is good if it works.u have to and I repeat u have to drive at least 2000 – more... miles every week to make any money becasue at .26cents a mile u can't make any money but they do I have another side of the company that u can make more money if u lease the truck or owner operator but depending on what kind of truck u want it will cost about 500 to 600 dollars a week to pay for the truck so u have to run even harder if u are on that side of the company.best thing u could do is be a trainer then u can make 2000 dollars a week becasue u are getting more miles since its two of u and. u will actually make more in training then u will be making on the road only thing I can say if u choose this company have a lot of money saved up I'm talking like 3 or 4 grand if u have bills like rent a car payment cell phone or if u hade to take out a loan they do have tution reimbursement but hopefully u can make that long to get them to pay it off just be prepared for it. If I had to do it all over I would not have picked stevens transport try to get your experience for over the road somewhere else unless u are going to be grandfathered in somewhere then u will not need any Otr experience I just hope I am able to pay all my bills this month o yea u can only go 62 miles an hour so on some of these highways your going to feel like your a snail they take away your Cruise controle I actually made more money at my old job then driving a semi truck This is not going to be a fun job it's more work than anything get your experience here and find a job at home or at another company if u like Otr most companies will take 6months to a year of experience – less
Professional Driver (Current Employee), Dallas, TX – May 16, 2013
Pros: good place to start driving
Cons: away from home to long before days off.
Good place to start your professional driving career. wonderful school how ever the time away from home is to long before your days off i have a family wife and son and i very much enjoy being around them i dont believe that the only way to make money in this industery is to be away which the consenus of most of the truck drivers i spoke to. their is – more... a give and take with everything in life and im not willing to give up my family so i know their is an employer out their that can allow me to do what ive grown to love and take care of my household. – less
OTR Driver (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – May 7, 2013
I was a over the road driver, which means I drove a tractor trailer from state to state. I learned how to read road maps and signs on interstates throughout the U.S. The hardest part of this job was, being away from my family so long with no home time. The only thing that I miss about this is, the cities I visited for free..
Over the Road Driver (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – April 9, 2013
Pros: you be lucky if you get a nice truck
Cons: no driving most of the time. away from family and friends. drivin in nyc sucks
waiting for ever to get a load. Company do not care about Drivers. You make $0.19 per mile. Once you deliver a load they take forever to give you another load.
Class A (OTR) Refrigerated truck driver (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – April 8, 2013
i drove for the company side of Stevens Transport, the pay was not very good at all. the management was sometimes lacking, and when it came time for me to be routed home for time off they would somehow get me stuck somewhere out of route, and sometimes route me all the way to the other side of the country to catch a route home. the most enjoyable part – more... of this job was seeing the country. the hardest part was being OTR for 5 months straight while almost begging for hometime. – less
lease operator alliance division (Current Employee), all over – April 5, 2013
Pros: new equip., miles if you want them, safe drivers as coworkers.
Cons: management is somewhat condescending to drivers. not enough home time.
I'm currently a lease operated in the alliance division. There are some things I'm disappointed about on the contractor side like the tactics used to recruit new contractors. Kinda like the bait and hook scheme that used car salesmen use. And I am struggling to make ends meet, but I believe that my success is based solely on me. after all my DM is great – more... and I haven't really had any conflicts with management. I get an average of 3000 miles a week but i t seems that I can't get a consistent settlement. at times it does seem like I'm back at high school when I'm on the yard. But safety is a big factor in the way this company operates, even though there may be a few dispatchers who push drivers to make bad decisions. Ive only had 11 days home in the last year. – less
Driver (Former Employee), Mesquite – March 7, 2013
Pros: trainers are good
Cons: everything
If your a new driver and you are from southern California, you will love it! Spend all your time at the truckstop in Ontario waitin on a repower. The seasoned vets get to bring in the 4000 mile runs(and rightfully so,but throw a starving guy a bone) and time out there. You can spend the 12 dollar gate fee to go out and deliver the load to Carson, a 65 – more... mile trip at 25 cents a mile!!Get ready to make money hand over fist!!! I had to tell my DM a story that I was fixin to go to jail if I didn't come back to Tx,if nothing else happened just to get my jinky truck fixed....When I did come back finally I gave them a long list of problems I had been dealing with,1 very serious loud noise in the front end...DM said fixed let's get back out, went to find it and discovered it was being used as a trainer, that was explained to me as normal no problem there.EXCEPT that the out of service stickers were scraped half off the windows!! Told be the safety red shirt that it had a nasty noise under her feet when it turned left.....hmmmmm you think? The king cheese DM says"look if you want a job get in that truck and leave.....now". I ran away – less
Over The Road Truck Driver (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – March 4, 2013
Pros: learned how to operate and commerical vehicle safely
Cons: didn't earn a decent income and i was away from home too much.
My typical work day, I would spend calling dispatch trying to obtain a assignment. I learned working for a company like this I could not earn the type of income that I set my goals for. Management has no concern for the driver and could careless if the company succeed. Co-workers, for the most part are very friendly and share the same views as I do. – more... The hardest part of my job was being away from my family and not earning a decent wage. Setting and waiting around for a load assignment and then when I would receive a load assignment it was normally a short run, 200-300 miles. The most enjoyable part was traveling and seeing some parts of the country. – less
Truck Driver (Current Employee), dallas, texas – February 21, 2013
Pros: travel 48 states
Cons: away from my wife and son
I really enjoy working for this company and making all the trips on time. I just want something local so I can be close to my family and not be away for months.
Student Driver (Former Employee), Dallas Tx – February 7, 2013
Pros: good instructors at school.
Cons: pay
The training at the school turned out to be o.k. It didn't stary out that way because of the fast pace atmosphere but soon everything came together. The instructers actually care about you. I wish I could say the same for the OTR Trainers. They treat u like a kid and some didn't have much more experience than the students. They acted like slave owners. – more... I had one that didn't talk at all. Just needed me to fatten his pocket by driving all those miles. – less

Cons: yes they are cons at stevens
Shame on you Stevens. You prey on the weak. Men with no job and limited finances are tricked into signing contracts with 18% interest rates and then put into situations so they will quit owning you thousands of dollars. Do the math people they push 30-50 students through their Dallas training center a week times 52 weeks a year. If they can get more – more... than 70% to wash out they make a fortune in collecting on the contracts. No need to train good drivers just keep moving them through and put them in collection you will make millions. Hope the 'family owners' can sleep at night while laughing at you all all the way to the bank. – less
Did this happen to you or someone you know? Im asking because the same things you mentioned are the same things that my husband is going through right now because of this company. Stevens lawyer said there is a hold on his CDL untill his training loan was paid. Even the sheriffs department came to our house. He drove with this company for 6 months. He never had a check over 400$ his checks were like 100$, 20$ when he drove between 2600-3000 mile per week !!! They always found a way to get more money out of his paycheck while he was on the road. So he decided to come home. He applied for a Job that seemed promising but was informed that they couldn't hire him because of Stevens. Stevens really screwed him. Do you have any advice on what he could do at this point? Can he still get some kind of job with his CDL and Hazmat and Tanker endorsements? Or anywhere for that matter! Thanks

Fleet manager (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – February 2, 2013
Pros: the daddy owner he is a good man i really loved him
Cons: management was very clicky no chance for advancement
i regret to say that at stevens transport the management was horrible.every thing was manage by intemadation everything was a threat.you were treated as meat in a seat.constant cussing at you and threats.example - you better or else - enjoy your lunch it may be your last - i hope you have a desk when you come in the next morning - dont you even think – more... about going home tonight - what we going to do to you will not be pretty - my all time favorite was if you want to live to see another day. that was classic.everyone there as far as co-workers were just afraid to even speak. terrible management and people skills.they could care less about there people that were trying so hard.the management lied to the customers they lied to the employees and shoot they even lied to each other.it was the dangdest thing i have ever saw – less

The only problem that I have with Stevens Transport is that I can't make enough money to support my family. I only get a few days off every 3-4 weeks. The most enjoyable part of the job is being about to see the country; the hardest part of the job is being away from my family. My co-workers I have always gotten along with, as well as management.
