If it's your only way into pharma...
Pharmaceutical Sales Representative (Former Employee), field repJanuary 26, 2014
Then take it. Otherwise I wouldn't suggest it. The company only looks after you if you are doing well. they preach how they stand by their employees. Its just not where you want to stay for more than 2 years.

Pharmaceutical company launching branded Megace ES for the treatment of extreme weight loss.
Area Sales Representative (Former Employee), San Francisco, CAJanuary 9, 2014
Pros: great manager, unique sales environment with unique experiences
Cons: no managed care coverage, seeing elderly be mistreated daily
Called primarily on Directors Of Nursing and Dieticians in nursing honmes to promote a weight gain medication Megace ES. I coverd the entire Bay Area and conducted multiple in-services on a daily basis. I had no partners.

Hardest part of the job was having hardly any managed care coverage for a $500-$600 medication when most of the patients are medicare/medical – more... patients.

Best part of my job was the unique opportunity to sell and run a territory on my own working with a great manager. – less

Great entry level pharma sales position
Territory sales rep (Current Employee), FLJuly 13, 2013
Pros: big budget, company car, free gas, small company
Cons: demanding work schedule, huge territory to cover
Been working at strativa for a little over two years. Great potential to earn with a specialty product. Long days make for big bonus checks. If you work hard and put in the time here, you will do well financially. Opportunities to earn promotions if you continuously hit your numbers.

Additional Resources Needed
Territory Sales Representative (Former Employee), UTApril 2, 2013
Benefits were okay, not the best I have ever received but for a small company it was somewhat expected. My peers were great, I enjoyed working with them and have made great relationships. The company was bought out which lead to a 60% reduction in force. Upper management was greatly changed and territories made large and difficult to manage. Unless – more... this company brings on additional products to market, I see the proprietary brands side of the company going away quickly. – less

Low Wage, No Advancement, and Terrible Management
Pharmaceutical Sales Representative (Current Employee), FloridaAugust 27, 2012
Pros: high bonus available, but hard to obtain
Cons: no work/life balance, no security, management lies and isnt open about anything
A typical day is you wake up and hit the door scared that you arent going to get your iPad signed before 8:45, who cares if that call moves business, because it is just your time clock for management. Then you spend your day going around asking doctors to sign your iPad to prove you were there without leaving them samples to move your business forward. – more... The DM's are just puppets that are there to do/say what NSD and VP tells them. Then you space your calls out just long enough to make your last call after 4:30 so that you can "punch out for the day."

There is no loyalty here to the sales reps, the company doesnt value employees and people are only good for what they have done lately. The bonuses can be big, but unless you get the random quarter where they mess up your goal, then you can't really hit the goal. This is the worst place to start your career in pharma. If you are selling hard core B2B (copiers, payroll, uniforms, etc.) then go into MED Device and stay away from RP, AD and Strativa! – less

Pharmaceuitical Sales
Sales Representative (Current Employee), Amarillo, TXJuly 26, 2012
Pros: free car, great budget, cell phone allowance, travel expenses covered, fantastic bonus checks and insentives
Cons: traveling the majority of the time
A typical day is (10) face to face calls on PCP's and a lot of windshield time, covering a huge territory. I've learned a lot about the healthcare industry and am a part of the leading district within the company. I have a wonderful manager and fantastic co workers. The hardest part of the job would be managing the size of the territory and the most – more... enjoyable part of the job would be the commissions checks. – less
