Stripes is owned by Susser Holdings, a company that was founded in 1938 when Sam Susser married the lovely Minna Weil Schwarz. The pair originally operated two service stations in Corpus Christi, Texas, before Sam decided to buy a tanker truck and enter the world of wholesale fuel delivery.
By the 1960s, the couple's two sons, Sam J. and Jerry, had decided to join the family business. The brotherly duo would go on to not only lead what is now Susser Holdings, but would manage to invent the pay-at-the-pump system along the way.
In 1988, a third Sam came aboard. Sam L., Sam J.'s son, helped spur the company's steady growth in both the retail and wholesale arenas throughout the '90s. The company decided to enhance their retail presence by joining the ranks of convenience store licensee, eventually operating dozens of 7-Eleven and Circle K locations throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
Stripes began life in 2006 when the Sussers decided the licensed stores they owned could be even more successful as an independent company. And they were right. Determined to deliver the goods to hard-working men and women with no time or money to waste, the Stripes brand of value and convenience can now be found at over 540 locations in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
One of Stripes' most popular offerings is their proprietary in-store, quick-serve restaurant, the Laredo Taco Company. Each and every taco is rolled by hand and filled with freshly grilled ingredients. Open during breakfast and lunch, Laredo Taco Company has become a go-to option for those wanting hot, fresh, delicious Mexican food at a value price.
Stripes also stays active in the communities it calls home. From in-store partnerships with national charities like the Children's Miracle Network, March of Dimes and the United Way, to corporate donations to local hospitals and education, Stripes focuses on helping kids lead healthier, happier lives.
