Manager of Accounting (Former Employee) – Austin, TX – October 10, 2017
The learning curve at sunpower was steep. As I progressed further in the company, it became evident that I was having to take on too much workload instead of hiring new employees to share the workload.
Great product, great engineers, challenging enviornment (solar).
Specialty Products Sales Engineer (consultant) (Current Employee) – San Jose, CA – October 5, 2017
SunPower has a great suite of products, but is challenged with a difficult market. The staff are self-motivated and highly dedicated, but as a result often get sucked in to working long hours with little reward.
Manager (Current Employee) – San Francisco, CA – September 28, 2017
Great company, culture and technology. Extensive range of opportunbity across the group. All-round level of expertise in the grou, from ELectrical Engineering, to Engineering, Procurement and Construction, to Business Development in both small scale and large scale solar
Approachable executives and a company that put importance to everyone's idea.
Financial Analyst (Former Employee) – Laguna – September 25, 2017
SunPower has a very good working environment which makes the job more enjoyable to do. Executives are always trying their best to reach out to their people and make sure that everyone feels the their value. Executives know how to appreciate every people's contribution which is one of the reasons why SunPower has a good retention rate.
SunPower has a lot of potential if the Exec's (C-suite) would get out of the way (leave). Surprised the Board of Directors hasn't ousted them yet. Lots of talented employees, just very poor leadership unfortunately.
The people I've come to know at SunPower are now some of my closest friends. There a number of motivated, hard-working people who will go out of their way to help you despite having an endless amount of work to accomplish. I don't have the highest opinion of management or the strategic direction of the company, but the work at SunPower feels truly impactful and important.
Great people, flexible work schedules, meaningful mission, great office location
Limited growth, poor strategic direction, too much work for too few people
Good place for learning fast phased Agile development process. Great work culture and coworkers. Very multicultural. The company cares for its employees and shows it, very diversified company and family values.
Totally preoccupied with 'problems', but incapable of whipping them.
Construction Manager (Former Employee) – Oakland, CA – April 6, 2017
In a typical day at work, there were disagreements with contractors, public whippings by internal management, with long hours to make up for it. Workplace culture was one that emphasized and rewarded domination and authoritarianism. Best part of job was getting sent out solo to support failing projects, where I did not have deal directly with managers. Worst part was arguing with managers and failing to bring them around to sensible behavior.
Senior Manager, Portal Products (Former Employee) – San Jose, CA – April 3, 2017
SunPower has a compelling mission and everyone that works there is passionate about changing the way our is powered. Being a manufacturer as well as a customer focused organization creates tension and competition for limited margin. Make a difference while working your tail off.
