From a doctor's scribbled prescription to the pharmacist who fills the order, SureScripts helps make sure patients get the right medicine for what ails them. The company operates an electronic network that connects doctors and pharmacies to enable the electronic exchange of prescription information. Surescripts' network connects prescribers with major – more... chain pharmacies (Walgreen, CVS, and Wal-Mart), payers and pharmacy benefits managers (Aetna, Express Scripts, and Wellpoint) and independent pharmacies across the US. SureScripts works with a variety of different clinical, electronic prescribing, and pharmacy management software systems.
SureScripts is the brainchild of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and the National Community Pharmacists Association, which co-founded the company in 2001. In 2008 Surescripts expanded its network when it merged with RxHub. RxHub was a similar electronic prescribing network that had been formed in 2001 by CVS, Express Scripts, and Medco Health Solutions. – less
