Swayam Learning – Northville, MI 48167
Come work at a dynamic and diverse learning enrichment center dedicated to the accelerated advancement of students in grades 2-11 through the subjects of English Language Arts, Science, and Math. Swayam Learning has been established since 2005.
At this point, we need English Language Teaching Assistants. Applicants must be either 1) certified English teachers 2) possess a B.A./M.A. in English/Education, 3) nearly finished with their teaching certification or degree in Education with English as a major, or 4) retired teachers. We need Teaching Assistants able and willing to commute to and work part-time in Northville. Flexibility of schedule is necessary, but we will do our best to accommodate your schedule preferences.
Teacher Assistants: The position will involve taking notes of class instruction, posting homework as assigned in class, and grading small-sized classes of up to 15 students per class. This will also mean becoming intimately knowledgeable about students' performance, weaknesses/strengths, and communicating with students/parents via email through the week if/when they contact you for help.
These diverse classes meet once a week. Grading can be done at home. Multiple classes may be available. Classes range from 1 hour to 2 hours per week. We go on a semester basis of 10 sessions for Fall/Winter and 7 sessions for Spring, with prospects of short summer workshops to teach in June-July as well.
For Teacher Assistants, the compensation is based on enrollment numbers. For 1 class that meets 2 hours/week that has 12-15 students for 10 sessions, TAs can earn $120/month/class. Approximately 10 hours of grading per class per month is anticipated. Some weeks will have far less grading and other weeks more-- therefore, being able to handle this to return graded material each week will be important.
Teacher Assistants who have actual teaching certifications and completed degrees can also avail of opportunities in Private and semi-private tutoring. tutoring follows similar schedule and is also available at $400-$600/semester, depending on enrollment.
Our classes meet on weekends all day (Sundays are our heaviest days) and weekday evenings for 2 hours (generally 6-8pm). We need candidates to be available for both weekends and weekday evenings.
Candidates should have a commitment to the education process, students’ progress, providing formative feedback on assignments on a weekly basis, and responding promptly to parents/student inquiries as well as the Managing Director and staff.
