Swift Transportation Co., Inc., a subsidiary of Swift Corporation, is a truckload carrier that operates a fleet of truckload carrier equipment. In January 2001, the Company expanded its operations through an agreement with Cardinal Freight Carriers Inc., a van and flatbed carrier based in North Carolina. Under the agreement, Swift Transportation hired – more... a number of Cardinal Freight's drivers and subleased a number of tractors from Cardinal Freight. On December 11, 2000 Swift Transportation and M.S. Carriers, Inc. announced an agreement to merge, in which M.S. Carriers will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Swift Transportation. The merger was completed in June 2001. On May 10, 2007, Swift Transportation Co., Inc. completed its merger with Saint Acquisition Corporation, a subsidiary of Saint Corporation and a corporation formed by Swift's founder, Jerry Moyes. Upon completion of the merger, Swift Transportation Co., Inc. became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saint Coporation, which was later renamed Swift Corporation.
