I would clock in, count out my shift, count down the cigarettes, releave mid-day person, let them count down their shift, recount all cigarettes in case of discrepancies. Then I would start pumping gas into vehicles. On the weekends I would also run daily shift paperwork, overages/shortages sheet, gas drops and cigarette orders and get mail ready for management on Monday.
The hardest part of the job was being out in the elements. Swifty was a full service gas station, we did all the pumping, rain, shine, sleet or snow, we were out in it.
I enjoyed working one on one with the customers. I would have daily customers and I would have weekly customers. But getting to know them personally and making sure I always had what they needed in stock and ready for them for when they pulled up to the pump.
