Very productive and friendly business!
Customer service LCR (Former Employee), Louisville, KY –
Pros: team parties
Cons: n/a
I enjoyed working at Sykes! There wasn't a day I did not want to go to work. The people were very friendly and my team lead was very talented and always kept everyone motivated. I learned something new everyday there. I sold XM Satallite Radio and was on the phone talking to customers and you just never know what type of mood people are in and have – more...  to know how to determine how people feel sometimes to get the job successfully done! The hardest part of the job was the slow days and the most enjoyable part was working with people! – less

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Nogales, AZ –
Pros: accumulation on break time, weekly incentives for being on time at work.
Cons: there is no cons regarding sykes
At sykes I learned how to interact more with customers by phone, to improve my communication, typing and multitasking skills.I also learned to resolve customers issues and needs. The most enjoyable part of the job is having to help other agents around your working area and knowing that you have done a great job helping customers and co-workers. Knowing – more...  that customers are satisfied with the answer makes you want to improve day by day.Sykes helps to manage your time, being at work on time, having to take breaks and lunches at the time schedules. Sykes is a great work environment for everyone,it is safe and fun. They value peoples values, race, culture, age and color.Sykes is not a hard job if we actually put 100% effort. – less

Good place to work
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Milton-Freewater, OR –
Pros: good company
Cons: tough on the vocal chords!
I enjoyed working at Sykes, except for the fact that I injured my vocal chords and had to quit! I liked taking calls and helping the members with their problems. Most of the people I worked with were great, most of the team leaders I had were good, too. I hated it when I got to to point that it hurt too much to talk, and I had to quit.

Very Professional Work Enviornment
Customer Service (Former Employee), Sumter, SC –
Pros: three consecutive days off!
A typical day at work consist of serving customers, answering inquiries, resolving problems, fulfilling request, selling additional services, maintaing call center database, and participating in educational meetings.
I gained valuable insight on how to assist all kinds of customers.
Management was very professional and well organized!
The hardest part – more...  of my job was taking in all the new information and applying it within days of obtaining information.
The best part of the job was being able to work with and assist customers on a daily basis! – less

Back to back calls and meeting high metrics.
Call Center Agent (Former Employee), Fort Smith, Arkansas –
Pros: breaks, friendly co-workers
Cons: expensive benefits that don't pay out, meeting metrics, highly competitive environment, angry and rude customers
A typical day at work involved answering inbound and outbound collection calls for a banking company. Most of the customers were rude and hateful and did not want you reminding them that they owed money(up to 7 times a day, everyday until bill is paid). I learned how better to take a cussing out and to handle constant changes in company policies and – more...  procedures. Management was highly competative with other members of management and teams and constantly wanted employees to meet high standard computerized metrics(example: you must be a A+ student all the time, no room for anything less than perfection). I got along great with my co-workers. The hardest part of the job is meeting the metrics, the constant change in policies and procedures and dealing with constant angry customers. The most enjoyable part of the job was when I clocked out for the day and the friends that I met there. – less

Challenging Place of Employment
SUPERVISOR, CREDIT CARD SERVICES (Former Employee), Sumter, SC –
Pros: it's a job
Cons: ...not a career
Place has the potential of resuming its nature of being an inviting place to work. Staff associates used to display happiness even throughout the diligence. Over time, care and concern for the actual "workerbees" has decreased alarmingly so however, no resolution of correcting this seems to be on the horizon.

Call Representative (Former Employee), Sumter, SC –
Cons: short breaks
A typical day at work included assisting customers with their bank accounts. I learned everything there was to know about bank of amercica. Sykes management could have been better than it was. The hardest part of the job was to work full time and continue to attend college as a full time student with only two days off.

Wouldn't Recommend
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Greenwood, SC –
It's a job with a decent pay. Management when I was there was awful and from what I've heard has NOT changed. They show favoritism towards people they like so I would say that's the hardest part of the job. Being involved with negavtive people.

Troubleshooting Agent (Current Employee), Edinburgh –
Pros: multinational background, great working atmosphere
Cons: stressful at times
Typical duties at work include handling of queries via call, emails, letters and chats. We help customers with queries about their mobile phones in a friendly and professional mannerism.

I learned to deliver service for German customers and for British customers on a high standard. To ensure that goals are met in times of high call volume it was necessary – more...  to learn how to prioritize tasks and to work as a team.

The team leads are helpful and always approachable for any issues.

The members of the team come from different national backgrounds and there is a great team spirit and atmosphere in the Motorola Team.

The hardest part of the job is to keep on top of everything when there is a high call volume. At the same time it is great to be challenged with difficult queries and to have the daily opportunity to learn something new about mobile technology. – less

The benefits and pay were the only things I found outstanding
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Sumter, SC –
Pros: 1 hour lunce and 3-15min breaks, benefits, pay
Cons: attendance policy, privacy, security, rules being broken
There were people out on the floor with books and food and pens and phones and other things that were not allowed to be on the floor. Calling in to work or missing work for any health or personal reasons was not allowed or you would be forced to resign. Team managers were not readily available to help. The hardest part of the job was being cursed out – more...  for anything by customers and not having help readily available. The most enjoyable part of the job were my breaks. – less

repetitive work
Customer Service Agent (Former Employee), Malvern, AR –
I learned more about how to deal with difficult customers, how and when to show compassion for special circumstances and more about how to focus in the issue.
A typical day at work was about 35 to 40 calls from customers with a variety of issues from billing to techical troubleshooting.
I had about 400 co-workers, so I didn't know very many of them – more...  personally.
The hardest part of the job was a mix of poor management and limited training. Though we had a training session every week, the trainers usually did not have full knowledge of the material, the training equipment malfunctioned most of the time and the environment was very disorganized.
The best part of the job was hear the satisfaction from customers i was able to help. – less

In general a great place to work.
Operations Management Desk Analyst (Former Employee), Hazard, KY –
The hardest part of the job was trying to earn team based incentives, and feeling motivated. The schedules were the best part of the job. A great place to work if you are a student. The scheduling department really work hard to make sure your schedule works out best for school.

Great place to work for good benefits
Agent (Former Employee), Kingstree, SC –
Pros: decent breaks
Cons: looking at a computer screen all day
A typical day is basically learning the process on how to assist a customer during a call for AT&T services. I learned how to have professional demeanor and how important it is to take care of a customer's needs. Management was okay even though they had their favorites. My co-workers were a very diverse group. The hardest part of the job is learning – more...  to manage some many systems on the computer at one time. The most enjoyable part of the job was operating the AT&T system once it was learned correctly. – less

great for single healthy people
Call center agent (Current Employee), Fort Smith, AR –
Pros: paid traing for 5 weeks
Cons: healthcare, no vacations, daily changes
Lots of paid training, fun environment but the calls can be rough and the rules change daily. You are not able to miss, even with a doctors note; so being single with no children would be a plus for most.

OK place to work in the IT department
Systems Administrator (Current Employee), Spokane Valley, WA –
Pros: lenient schedule, great bosses, easy going atmosphere, 401k matching
Cons: expensive health care, no advancement opportunities
Sykes is an OK company to work for in the IT department. It is a great place to start learning and getting your hands dirty with IT. The bosses are great, the work and life balance is awesome.

However, I was unable to fully utilize my skills and talent. Chances for advancement is very slim, and quarterly/yearly raises are almost nonexistent.
