you work almost 60 hours weekly and have to be available 24/7 because parents and teachers have questions constantly. You manage all employees and oversee all the children's learning plans. The most enjoyable part is working with the children and really seeing their improvement.

Director of Assessments
Director Of Assessments & Tutor (Former Employee) –  Tyler, TXNovember 2, 2015
Work days varied with the amount of students that were scheduled for tutoring and testing. Some days were filled with assessments and working with parents to find the right education plan for their child while some days were working with students on their reading or math lesson plans.

Fun experience helping kids learn but hours fluctutate a lot.
Advanced Math Tutor (Current Employee) –  SammamishSeptember 22, 2015
A very enjoyable place to work and full of fun-loving people who are passionate about their work. If you're not part of the administration then you will probably need a second job to make a living wage since hours fluctuate a lot depending on the season. Overall a great place to work and expand your horizons.
Pros
Flexible work schedule, friendly coworkers.
Cons
Hours unreliable, no health benefits, raises infrequent.

Math Instructor/Former Program Math Manager (Former Employee) –  Centerville, GASeptember 20, 2015
A typical day at work started by making sure that notebooks were up-to-date and equipped with those lessons needed to assist the student. Made sure that homework was completed before assigned lessons began. After completing a lesson, took time to ask the student what he/she learned. Co-workers were very helpful when other tasks had to be performed. The most enjoyable part of the job was watching how the students progressed in their area of weakness.
Pros
Seeing the growth of students from when they first started
Cons
Sometimes you take a loss when there are no students

Teacher's assistant (Former Employee) –  Federal Way, WAAugust 18, 2015
The people you work with play a huge role in why this job was enjoyable. Everyone was easy to get along with and helpful as well. Although, at times dealt with unfamiliar tasks, they were fairly simple. The hardest part of the job is talking to rude parents or children that refused to listen to you. Also, if this job is shared with another person, you won't get a lot of hours.
Pros
Relaxed, air conditioned enviorment, caring management
Cons
not a lot of hours available, monthly paychecks

Good hours, decent pay, bad management
Center Instructor (Former Employee) –  Sugar Land, TXAugust 17, 2015
Starting pay is $10/ hour, which isn't horrible. The hours are good/ flexible. But the management is so flaky it is hard to want to to into work. I didn't get paid for my first month+ of working there because they messed up my routing numbers and they simply failed to inform me. They also went over a month with essential parts of the center broken because the owner was too cheap to fix anything.
Pros
flexible hours, decent pay, paid training
Cons
no breaks, bad management

Teacher (Former Employee) –  Kirby, TXAugust 1, 2015
A typical day at work was okay. We as teachers spoke to each other prior to scheduled assignments. We prepare for the students we are teaching and tutoring.

I learned that you must cover yourself and document your day, everyday. Depending on the Management, you may not be able to trust their words or any documents they supply about you.

Co-workers were great. Easy to work with, and helpful to assist you which benefited the student's and the employer.

The hardest part of the job is not obtaining the necessary training or feedback to best improve your skills.

The most enjoyable part of working are the kids. Watching you make a connection with them and watching thyem feel great when they accomplish something new.

Secondary Math Tutor (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXOctober 11, 2015
This company lacks organization. You never knew what to expect from a day's work. The working environment was very military like. You couldn't interact with coworkers at all. Most enjoyable part of the job was helping the kids.

Educational Consultant (Current Employee) –  McAllen, TXJuly 13, 2015
Opened the business at 8 a.m and made sure all was ready for the first class at 8:30. Replied to all e-mail inquires and calls. Learned a little more about designing monthly e-mail blast.
The hardest but also great part of the job was its fast paced energy along with must multi-tasking skills to run the job effectively. The most enjoyable part of the job was all the summer campaigns for monthly educational camps held at the business.

Great to help kids, but nothing else good about it
Tutor (Former Employee) –  Montgomery, ALJuly 28, 2015
Tutoring kids is very rewarding, but that was the only positive about this place for me. The owners were mostly interested in their profits, and employees' pay suffered as a result... to the point where they refused to discipline children for fear they may leave and not pay anymore.
Pros
Rewarding to teach
Cons
Everything else you can think of

Great program for childrten
Assistant Director (Former Employee) –  Rome, GAJuly 10, 2015
Sylvan learning center provides a great, individualized program for students who are struggling with school and even those who need to be more challenged.
A typical work day for me would consist of standardized testing for students upon starting their program. I would compile lesson plans based on their test scores, prepare materials (books and manipulatives), and occasionally teach lesson plans. I also managed from 15-20 employees including scheduling and payroll.
The best part of my job was watching children gain confidence and knowledge to become successful at school and in life. The hardest part was working with children with special needs. These children would still benefit from the program, but sometimes the pace was not as great.

Helping children
Cons
Late work hours
