Live and Learn. Take notice: SFG is a scam.
Agent (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCDecember 14, 2017
The ultimate rip-off artists. This management cult is so busy drinking the self-inoculating Kool-Aid, they are oblivious to the fact that they come off as a bunch of robots...they say the same thing over and over to brainwash you. They spout off leadership quotes to reaffirm their lies. They do this because they make a huge cut for doing nothing more than finding you. You pay all of the expenses, they make money free and clear.

The leads are often old, expensive, have already been paid for and distributed multiple times, etc. The products may as well be snake oil. The coverage rates are ridiculous. The clients are either too old to get coverage or so sick, they cannot afford the premiums. Most of them have already been visited by fellow or competitor agents. Many clients would be better off getting fully underwritten, but agents are advised to go with no medical underwriting (higher premiums). SFG advertises to new agents that they start at 60% commission. What they fail to tell you is that rate is only in one product (mortgage protection) and not all term lengths. They also fail to tell you that they rarely sell these for the entire balance of the mortgage; most can only afford a critical period insurance. The other products yield agents significantly less.

If you are looking for a job that actually costs you money to work, you don’t mind listening to mind-numbing conference calls, depreciating your car, and you are willing to sell your soul to the devil while giving up every evening and weekend...SFG is the place for you. SFG is nothing more than
more... a deceptive environment veiled as an opportunity to help people in need. Don’t be tricked!  less

Amazing Opportunity!
Independent Agent (Current Employee) –  Milwaukee, WINovember 14, 2017
If you are a positive, self motivated person, then Symmetry Financial Group offers an amazing, life changing opportunity for rapid financial success and personal growth. Everyone is incredibly supportive and encouraging and they genuinely want to see you succeed. One of the things I love about Symmetry is that it's a company where it is truly more than just about the money, it is also about pulling the next person up to share in the success, and giving back to others. Yes, you have to work at it, be persistent and follow the system they have built; but if you are willing to learn, improve and put in the daily effort you will have the privilege of helping families every day and you WILL succeed, way beyond your expectations!
Pros
Great people, excellent income, flexible schedule, personal growth.
Cons
It's not easy. Requires hard work, persistence, and self confidence.

Great income and ownership opportunity as a producer
Sales and agency builder (Current Employee) –  Virginia althoug recruiting nationaly as an agentNovember 14, 2017
SFG is an amazing opportunity for the right person. The leads are good for insurance sales and even better when you qualify for the A leads. Sell three policies and you qualify. I found it easy. The real opportunity is in agency ownership, although not required. I'm receiving additional income from agency ownership. I love finding annuity and Indexed Universal Life opportunities to help people save for retirement in a tax free environment. it's great to know we are really helping families with their financial needs including life insurance. You must be a self motivated and organized person to succeed in a big way, although I literally see hundreds of people doing it. I made good money my first week selling. Leads were cheap and produced for me.
Pros
Leads and no cold calling or door knocking.
Cons
It's simple, but requires work.

Difficulties with SFG
Life Insurance Agent (Current Employee) –  McDonough, GANovember 9, 2017
The biggest hurdle in working with SFG is that you are responsible for purchasing your own leads. On a weekly basis the leads begin to get expensive.

Positive People, Lonely job
Field Underwriter (Current Employee) –  LouisianaNovember 8, 2017
Being the only agent in my area and not having the socialization of others proved to be difficult in this industry. One of the main ingredients for success here in this very stressful position is to associate often with others in this field to continue to keep a positive and winning attitude. Most of the agents are located in the north. This position has its ups and downs much like a roller coaster with extreme highs and lows and a few loops in between.
Pros
Freedom of time
Cons
feast or famine ups and downs, commission only

Agency owner (Current Employee) –  asheville, NCOctober 16, 2017
It's not for everyone, but if you can manage yourself and are good with people, this may be it for you! Too many success stories for it not to work. Great for part timer's looking to transition into something full time. I personally can't think of a more rewarding career.

Work-Life Balance Out of Whack
Life Insurance Agent (remote) (Current Employee) –  Swannanoa, NCOctober 5, 2017
People are very kind and the company culture is very positive. Unfortunately, managers encourage staff to work what amounts to 7 days a week, and leads must be paid for--and are sold multiple times. Most leads are multiple years old.

Doesn't deliver on promise
Agency Owner and Insurance Agent (Current Employee) –  Kansas City, MOSeptember 12, 2017
The target market is people who procrastinate and do not prioritize insurance coverage as a necessary expense. Aside from the difficulty inherent in the target group, lead flow was also a problem. It felt like I was always scraping the bottom of the barrel for decent leads, and even the expensive leads were hardly discernible in quality from the low-cost leads. Also, I was not able to purchase any leads in my own higher income county thanks to state (Kansas) solicitation laws.
Pros
Independence in your daily activities
Cons
Too much emphasis on building your own network of agents

Professional, Fun, Environment -- Yes, You Have to Focus and Work
Agent (Current Employee) –  AlabamaAugust 15, 2017
Symmetry has a great platform, and most folks have fun and work hard, while also being professional. The company is not for people afraid to grow professionally, nor negative people. The company has a big focus on personal development for employees, and you get out what you put in. The platform system is proven, and works, and if you want to make a good living protecting families you can, and if you want to build out an agency and eventually get out of the field, you can. The system provides leads for the folks out in the field at a loss to the company upfront, and there are concrete, well-defined parameters to get paid more and become an agency owner. The system is quite genius, and is better than anything else in the market currently. Trust the system, don't quit, and grow and your life will never be the same in a positive manner.
Pros
Defined Steps To Increase Pay and Own Your Agency, Great Culture, Great Training, Great People

Commission-driven "get out what you put in" style of company
Insurance Agent (Current Employee) –  Orlando, FLAugust 11, 2017
Extremely positive and forward-thinking company with immense room for advancement within the company. Management and administration are very personable and willing to speak with and encourage each person in the company, including new recruits.

The job can be described as "lonely" sometimes, due to the amount of time spent making phone calls and researching on your own. However there are multiple weekly conference calls which help to maintain a feeling of camaraderie.

There is an aspect of "you get out what you put in" in the sense that you only have to work as much as you'd like. If you deliver a big policy to a client and you feel that the commission will carry you through a couple of weeks, you're free to take that time off. Nobody will get on your case for working too much or too little.

That being said, your biggest adversary will be your own self-motivation. Make a schedule for yourself and stick to it, and you will be consistently rewarded.
Pros
Freedom to work at your own pace
Cons
Commission does not equal a guaranteed paycheck every month
