Sysmex America is systematic about the analysis of the circulatory system. The company, a subsidiary of Japanese medical diagnostic equipment manufacturer Sysmex, manufactures and markets clinical laboratory testing devices and automation systems for hematology, immuno-chemistry, particle counting, and urinalysis. Sysmex Reagents America manufactures and distributes chemical diagnostic reagents specifically for use in Sysmex's hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis analyzers, as well as related software. Its customers are pathology labs and health care providers located in the US, Canada, and Latin America; the company's products are distributed primarily through a network of independent distributors.
Sysmex Americas oversees manufacturing, administrative, and logistics facilities in Illinois (Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire, and Mundelein), as well as a reagent manufacturing plant in Brazil, a Latin American customer support office in Florida, and its Sysmex Canada division.
Sales and Marketing
In the US, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics acts as the wholesale distribution partner for the Sysmex coagulation and urinalysis products, while Laboratory Supply Company (LABSCO) serves as the distributor for hematology reagents, controls, and instruments. The company's Sysmex Canada division provides Canadian hematology and coagulation distribution operations.
While it uses wholesalers to distribute its products (and to promote them in some markets), the company also employs a direct sales force in the US to market its products to customers. In addition to laboratories, hospitals, and other health care clients, the company often services supply contracts with hospital purchasing organizations such as Premier and Novation.
To support sales of equipment and reagents, Sysmex America offers information systems and software to help labs manage data, control costs, and create accurate and timely diagnostic conclusions.
Sysmex America's revenues rose 5% to nearly $27 million in 2012. Growth was attributed to the development of the company's direct sales network in the US market, as well as increased promotional efforts. However, increased operating costs related to the sales and marketing initiatives caused net income to drop 12% to some $2.9 million.
Sysmex America expands by researching and developing new and improved products, such as enhanced automated blood analyzers and high-volume tube sorters. To further attract and retain clients, it also widens its support service offerings, such as new decision support software that helps labs improve turnaround times and analysis capabilities. To meet increasing customer demands, the company added new logistics, processing, and training centers in Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove, Illinois, during 2012. – less
